Célula somática

Unha célula somática (do grego σὠμα/soma, corpo) é toda célula que forma o corpo dun organismo pluricelular que non sexa un gameto, célula xerminal, gametocito ou célula nai indiferenciada.[1] A diferenza das anteriores, os gametos son células que se fusionan durante a reprodución sexual para formar o cigoto (nos humanos serían o espermatozoide e o óvulo); as células xerminais son células que dan lugar a gametos, e as células nai son células que poden dividirse por mitose e diferenciarse en tipos celulares especializados diversos. No caso dos mamíferos, por exemplo, as células somáticas son as que forman todos os órganos internos, pel, óso, músculos e tecido conectivo. Nos mamíferos as células somáticas son xeralmente diploides e divídense por mitose.[1]

Contido cromosómico

As células somáticas que teñen os cromosomas distribuídos por pares, denomínanse diploides e o organismo denomínase diploide (os seus gametos son haploides). As células humanas somáticas teñen normalmente 46 cromosomas, que son 23 pares e son diploides (os gametos teñen 23). Porén, un grande númeo de especies teñen células somáticas cos cromosomas en catro copias, polo que son tetraploides, ou en seis copias hexaploides, como por exemplo, a variedade cultivada moderna de trigo, Triticum aestivum L., que é hexaploide, e hai anfibios, réptiles e insectos con células somáticas tetraploides.

En certos órganos de especies diploides podemos atopar de forma habitual algunhas células somáticas cunha ploidía elevada, como ocorre, por exemplo, no fígado de mamíferos, onde se poden atopar células tetraploides, octaploides ou de ploidías máis altas.[2]

Tamén pode ocorrer que a célula somática e o gameto teñan o mesmo número de cromosomas en certas especies, como ocorre, por exemplo, no gametófito dun fento ou dun musgo, formados por células somáticas haploides, que orixina gametos tamén haploides por mitose (en vez de por meiose). O esporófito desas plantas é diploide e forma esporas haploides por meiose.

Mutacións somáticas

Se os xenes dunha célula somática dun individuo sofren unha mutación, esta denomínase somática e afectará só a ese individuo, xa que non pasará á súa descendencia (só o fan as mutacións na liña xerminal). Pero hai excepcións, xa que nas plantas con reprodución vexetativa e clonal (por propágulos, porbaixas etc.) unha mutación nunha célula somática pode orixinar descendentes con esa mutación.

Clonación

As células somáticas poden usarse en clonación, para o cal se transfire o núcleo da célula somática a un óvulo ao que se lle eliminou o seu núcleo, o que se chama transferencia nuclear somática. A célula resultante ten a capacidade proliferativa dun óvulo e o xenoma completo da célula somática inicial, polo que produce un organismo clónico con respecto do que procede a célula somática. Outra forma de clonar é fusionar mediante pequenas descargas eléctricas a célula somática enteira co óvulo sen núcleo.
