Célula parvocelular

As células parvocelulares, tamén chamadas células P, son neuronas situadas dentro das capas parvocelulares do núcleo xeniculado lateral (LGN) do tálamo. "Parvus" significa "pequeno" en latín (da mesma raíz que parvo) e o nome "parvocelular" refírese ao pequeno tamaño da célula en comparación coas células magnocelulares, máis grandes.

Función

As neuronas parvocelulares do sistema visual reciben a súa entrada de células ananas, un tipo de célula ganglionar da retina, cuxos axóns están saíndo do tracto óptico. Estas sinapses ocorren nunha das catro capas parvocelulares dorsais do núcleo xeniculado lateral. A información de cada ollo mantense separada neste punto e continúa segregada ata que se procesa no córtex visual. A información visual codificada eléctricamente sae das células parvocelulares a través de células de retransmisión nas radiacións ópticas, viaxando até a capa de cortiza visual primaria 4C-β. As neuronas parvocelulares son sensibles á cor,[1] e son máis capaces de discriminar detalles finos que as súas contrapartes magnocelulares. As células parvocelulares teñen maior resolución espacial, pero menor resolución temporal, que as células magnocelulares.
