Basamento

O basamento é un elemento arquitectónico consistente nunha plataforma que sostén un edificio, en parte como elemento de soporte e, en parte, como elemento arquitectónico visible sobre o que apoia a estrutura.

A base típica do basamento dos templos gregos ten o nome de crepidine (xenérico) ou crepidoma (con bancadas) no cal o plano sobre o que apoian as columnas chámase estilóbata mentres o máis alto e dominante dos templos romanos chámase podio.

O termo basamento tamén pode indicar a parte inferior dun edificio que está constituído tamén por máis planos, con forma arquitectónica distinta das superiores.

Tamén pode tratarse dun elemento autónomo que ten a función de soporte dunha estatua, unha decoración ou calquera outro obxecto de grandes ou pequenas dimensións. Nun pedestal pode ser tamén sinónimo de zócolo.
