San Xoán de Baión é unha parroquia que se localiza no concello de Vilanova de Arousa. Segundo o IGE,[2] en 2016 tiña 1 315 habitantes, dos cales 633 eran homes e 682 mulleres. Isto supón unha diminución de habitantes con respecto ao ano 2007 cando tiña 1 511.

Historia

De 1936 a 1945 pertenceu ao concello de Vilagarcía de Arousa.

Patrimonio

Amais da igrexa de San Xoán, na parroquia está a capela de San Simón cun cruceiro ao seu carón. Entre a arquitectura civil destaca o Pazo Baión.

Festas

  • O 24 de xuño celébrase a festa de San Xoán, patrón da parroquia, con fogueiras, sardiñas, xogos, música e baile.
  • O 28 de outubro celébrase a romaría de San Simón. A carón desta capela hai un cruceiro do século XVI.
