O Apple I foi un dos primeiros ordenadores persoais e un dos primeiros en combinar un microprocesador cunha conexión para teclado e monitor. Foi o primeiro produto de Apple Computer e foi exposto en abril de 1976 no Homebrew Computer Club de Palo Alto, California.

O Apple I foi deseñado e montado por Steve Wozniak orixinalmente para uso persoal. Mentres que foi idea de Steve Jobs o vender o aparello.

Comercialización

O Apple I saíu á venda en xullo de 1976 por 666,66$ [1] porque a Wozniak lle gustaban os díxitos repetidos[2] e porque orixinalmente o venderon a unha tenda local por 500$ e engadiron un terzo de marxe de beneficio. Producironse preto de 200 unidades do Apple I e a diferenza doutras computadoras para afeccionados, que foron vendidas como kits, o Apple I consistía nun taboleiro de circuítos completamente ensamblado que contiña arredor de 60 chips. Porén, para facer unha computadora funcional, os usuarios tiñan que engadirlle unha carcasa, un transformador para a corrente, o interruptor de acendido, un teclado ASCII e unha pantalla de vídeo composto. Unha tarxeta opcional proporcionaba unha interface para casetes de almacenamento que foi comercializada máis adiante ao prezo de 75$.

Isto fixo do Apple I unha máquina innovadora no seu momento, a pesar da carencia de gráficos ou de capacidades de son. En abril de 1977 o prezo baixou a $475.[3] A súa comercialización continuou ata agosto de 1977, a pesar da introdución do Apple II en abril de 1977, que comezou a venderse en xuño dese ano.[4] Apple sacara o Apple I da súa lista de prezos antes de outubro de 1977, descontinuándoa oficialmente.[5]

Afírmase que Steve Jobs e Steve Wozniak son os pais da era da computadora persoal co seu produto o Apple I acreditándolle como o primeiro computador persoal que se vendía completamente ensamblado, non obstante, algúns din que o honor lexítimo pertence a outras máquinas, como o Datapoint 2200.
