Acoso sexual

O acoso sexual inclúe unha serie de ataques que van dende molestias até o abuso grave que pode chegar a involucrar actividade sexual. Considérase que o acoso sexual é unha forma de discriminación ilegal e é unha forma de abuso sexual e psicolóxico.

Para que exista o delito contra a liberdade sexual é preciso que o comportamento do acosador faga que a vítima dunha situación moi intimidatoria, hostil ou humillante.

Isto ocorre normalmente no lugar de traballo ou noutros eidos, como o ensino ou servizos habituais nos que poñer obxeccións ou rexeitar o acoso pode ter consecuencias negativas. Na lei de ocupación dos Estados Unidos, está definido como calquera interese ou comportamento sexual inadecuado no lugar de traballo, tendo o efecto de facer que o lugar de traballo sexa intimidatorio ou hostil. Algúns psicólogos e traballadores sociais cren que o acoso sexual grave ou crónico poden ter os mesmos efectos psicolóxicos sobre as vítimas que a violación ou a agresión sexual. A reacción violenta e as represalias por denunciar o acoso sexual pode agravar aínda máis os efectos. Por exemplo, en 1995, Judith Coflin suicidouse tras unha acoso sexual continuado por parte dos seus xefes e compañeiros (a súa familia foi indemnizada con máis de 6 millóns de dólares).[1]
