Lorsque deux symboles apparaissent par paire séparée par un point, celui de gauche représente une voyelle non arrondie, celui de droite une voyelle arrondie. Pour ceux situés au centre, la résonance labiale n'est pas spécifée.
La voyelle pré-fermée (ou fermée inférieure, ou haute inférieure) centralearrondie est une voyelle utilisée dans certaines langues. Son symbole dans l'alphabet phonétique international est [ʊ̈], et son équivalent en symbole X-SAMPA est U\. Le symbole non standard [ᵿ], ou sa variante [ᵾ], est parfois utilisé pour la représenter.
Caractéristiques
Son degré d'aperture est haut inférieur, ce qui signifie que la position de la langue est proche de celle d'une voyelle haute, mais légèrement moins resserrée.
