Vache peut faire référence en français à plusieurs animaux :

Sports

  • En escalade, une vache est une longe généralement utilisée pour s'accrocher à un relai.
  • En parachutisme, une vache est un terrain plus ou moins vierge, distinct de la zone prévue à cet effet, où un pratiquant atterrit de manière improvisée (à la suite d'une avarie matérielle, à une erreur de reconnaissance ou de navigation sous voile). Plutôt que d'atterrir, il se dit que le parachutiste s'est « vaché ». La vache est généralement un terrain vague, des champs, un jardin privatif s'il est suffisamment grand, un parc, en fonction de la topographie avoisinant la zone de largage et de la marge de manœuvre dont bénéficie le parachutiste. Les forêts, étendues d'eau et zones urbanisées et construites sont proscrites pour ces atterrissages improvisés en raison des risques pour le matériel et des risques de blessures, voire de mort pour le pratiquant et les tiers.
  • En vol à voile, une vache est un atterrissage « auprès des vaches » par opposition à celui sur un terrain officiel. Par extension, tout terrain non prévu officiellement à un usage aéronautique, mais où un planeur peut physiquement se poser est une vache. Une vache est une solution de secours qui ne permet pas physiquement ou légalement le décollage. Un planeur vaché quitte une vache par voie terrestre.

Punition

La vache est, en argot scolaire breton, le nom du symbole, un objet punitif utilisé par les instituteurs de France à partir de 1925 pour éradiquer les langues locales et créer une unité linguistique française.
