Alupe Tolentino, artiste non-binaire dont le nom de scène est Suicidal Idol, a créé ce même projet musical originaire de Los Angeles. Suicidal Idol commence à publier des morceaux en 2021, en développant initialement un style hyperpop. Le titre « Ecstasy » devient viral sur TikTok en 2023 et atteint le Top 40 des classements britanniques. Suicidal Idol partage ensuite l’affiche d’une tournée nord-américaine avec Sueco. Son style musical est généralement décrit comme de l’electronic dance music (EDM), mêlant des éléments lo-fi.

Originaires de Los Angeles, en Californie, l'artiste a d'abord proposé un son emo pop[2] et s'est fait connaître grâce à ses morceaux pop rap.

En , son premier single « Ecstacy » est auto-produit. En , il a été réédité par Kurate Music[3]. La chanson est devenue virale sur TikTok à partir de , notamment grâce à une version ralentie qui a rencontré un vif succès sur la plateforme[2]. Le , un remix en collaboration avec 6arelyhuman et Syris a été publié. Il a atteint la 26e place du UK Singles Chart en [4],[5] et s'est classée 3e du Billboard TikTok Top 50 avec 3,6 millions d'écoutes aux États-Unis.
