Les rhipidistiens (Rhipidistia), parfois appelés dipnotétrapodomorphes (Dipnotetrapodomorpha), forment un groupe monophylétique de sarcoptérygiens qui comprend l'ancêtre commun des tétrapodes et des dipneustes.

Caractéristiques

Les rhipidistiens se caractérise par la disposition de plusieurs caractéristiques tels que :

  • Une nageoire dorsale en forme de voile en éventail.
  • La présence de dentine et d'émail sur les dents.
  • L'absence de contact entre maxillaire et préoperculaire.
  • La présence d'un large quadratojugal.
  • La présence d'une jonction postorbitale du supraorbital et des lignes sensorielles infraorbitales.
  • L'existence de seulement trois coronoïdes.
  • La présence d'une cavité latérale dans la capsule nasale.

Classification

Historique

Les rhipidistiens était autrefois considérés comme un clade de sarcoptérygiens qui incluait les porolépiformes et les ostéolépiformes, aujourd'hui reconnu comme obsolète[2]. Les classifications actuelles placent les rhipidistiens comme un groupe monophylétique qui inclut les tétrapodes et les dipneustes.
