Albums de Vangelis Papathanassiou

Opéra sauvage est un album composé, arrangé et interprété par Vangelis Papathanassiou sorti en 1979. Il regroupe une sélection de morceaux qu'il a composés pour accompagner la série documentaire naturaliste L'Opéra sauvage, réalisée par Frédéric Rossif. La pochette de l'album a été conçue par Vangelis lui-même.

Vangelis a réalisé cet album durant sa période électro-acoustique, qui fut l'une de ses périodes les plus prolifiques de sa carrière. Du fait de l'utilisation intensive des synthétiseurs et en particulier du Yamaha CS-80, Opéra Sauvage est plus proche dans ses sonorités des albums « classiques » de Vangelis que ses précédentes musiques de films composées pour Frédéric Rossif, comme L'Apocalypse des animaux ou La Fête sauvage. Plus tard, Vangelis composera également Sauvage et Beau pour le même réalisateur, dans un style proche de Opéra sauvage. Jon Anderson, du groupe Yes, est présent à la harpe sur le titre Flamants roses.

Notes

Hymne, L'Enfant, Mouettes et Irlande sont construits sur des thèmes harmoniquement assez simples, développés par les différents instruments. Rêve est, comme le suggère son nom, une pièce d'un très grand calme. Chromatique repose sur un thème développé sur la gamme chromatique. Enfin, Flamants roses est constitué de plusieurs parties, lentes ou enlevées, et se termine par un final dans le style du blues.

Vangelis a enregistré cet album aux studios Nemo, à Londres, entre 1978 et 1979, avec l'ingénieur du son Keith Spencer-Allen, assisté de Marlis Duncklau et Raphael Preston.

Autres apparitions

Une variante de Hymne a été utilisée dans le film Les Chariots de feu dont Vangelis a composé la bande originale.

L'Enfant a été utilisé dans la musique du film L'Année de tous les dangers de Peter Weir.

En Italie, Hymne a été utilisé dans la bande son de publicités pour les pâtes Barilla tout au long des années 1980, ainsi que dans celle d'une publicité américaine pour les vins Ernest & Julio Gallo.
