Harold Lang Winkler, surnommé Hal Winkler (né le à Gretna, dans la province du Manitoba, au Canada — mort le ), est un joueur professionnel canadien de hockey sur glace qui évoluait au poste de gardien de but en Amérique du Nord au cours des années 1920[1],[2].

Biographie

Natif de Gretna dans le Manitoba au Canada, Winkler joue deux finales de la Coupe Allan en 1918 et 1920 après avoir passé six saisons dans la Manitoba Senior Hockey League. Il commence sa carrière professionnelle avec les Eskimos d'Edmonton de la Western Canada Hockey League en 1921. Il passe trois saisons avec l'équipe des Eskimos avant de rejoindre les Tigers de Calgary[1].

Au début de la saison 1926-1927, il rejoint les rangs de la Ligue nationale de hockey et les Rangers de New York. Lors de son premier match, il arrête tous les tirs des Maroons de Montréal et compte le premier blanchissage de sa carrière. Malgré tout, il ne joue que huit matchs avec les Rangers, Lorne Chabot lui étant préféré. Il finit la saison avec les Bruins de Boston, toujours dans la LNH, et mène l'équipe à la finale de la Coupe Stanley[1].

Avant le début de la saison 1928-1929, il quitte les Bruins et rejoint les Millers de Minneapolis de l'Association américaine de hockey en retour de Tiny Thompson. Ce dernier guidera les Bruins à leur première Coupe Stanley[3]. Winkler met fin à sa carrière en 1931[1].
