Cécile ou Cécilia de Provence (1070 - 1150) est, de par son mariage avec Bernard Aton IV Trencavel, vicomtesse d’Albi, de Nîmes, de Carcassonne, de Razès, de Béziers et d’Agde.

Biographie

Éléments biographiques

Cécile de Provence naît après 1063 (date du mariage de ses parents) elle est fille du comte de Provence Bertrand II et d'une certaine Mathilde, dont l'origine est inconnue. Elle épouse en 1083 le puissant vicomte Bernard Aton IV, de la maison Trencavel, à qui elle donnera sept enfants. Son mari élève pour elle le château de Gaïx, près de Castres, au rang de baronnie. Au cours de sa vie, elle fait de nombreux dons à l'abbaye Notre-Dame d'Ardorel, qui prospère grandement grâce à elle. Elle aurait aussi participé à la fondation de la collégiale Saint-Pierre de Burlats[1].

Elle meurt finalement en 1150, après avoir exprimé le souhait d'être inhumée dans l'enceinte de l'abbaye de l'Ardorel.

De son mariage en 1083 avec Bernard Aton IV Trencavel, naissent :

  • Roger Ier († 1150), vicomte de Carcassonne, d’Albi et de Razès (1129-1150) ;
  • Raimond Ier († 1167), vicomte de Béziers (1129-1167) et d'Agde (1129-1150), puis de Carcassonne, Razès et Albi (1150-1167) ;
  • Bernard Aton V († 1159), vicomte de Nîmes (1129-1159) et d'Agde (1150-1159) ;
  • Ermengarde († 1156), mariée en 1110 à Gausfred III, comte de Roussillon ;
  • Metteline, mariée en 1105 à Arnaud de Béziers-Sauvian ;
  • Ermessinde, mariée en 1121 à Rostaing de Posquières ;
  • Pagane.
