Après une année passée à l’université d’Australie-Occidentale à Perth en tant que chercheur, il rejoint comme professeur l’université d’Orléans en 2000 et poursuit ses travaux au sein de l’Institut des sciences de la terre d’Orléans, qu'il dirige de 2006 à 2009. Il enseigne la géologie de surface et la pédologie à la faculté des sciences et à Polytech Orléans. De 2004 à 2006, il assure la direction du master géosciences et environnement qui regroupe trois spécialités, deux de la faculté de sciences et une de la faculté de lettres, langues et sciences humaines.
Ary Bruand est aujourd'hui professeur des universités en géosciences au sein de l'Observatoire des sciences de l'Univers en région Centre (OSUC) et du Collegium sciences et techniques de l'université d'Orléans.
