Ylä-Saimaa

Ylä-Saimaa on harvoin esiintyvä Saimaaseen liittyvä käsite, jolla voidaan tarkoittaa järven yläjuoksulla sijaitsevia Suur-Saimaaseen kuuluvia vesistöjä. Raja Ylä-Saimaan ja Ala-Saimaan välillä kulkee tavallisesti Savonlinnan Kyrönsalmen virrassa [1][2][3]. Toisinaan Ylä-Saimaalla tarkoitetaan Kyläniemen [4] pohjoispuolisia alueita Puumalan kirkonkylän Puumalansalmelle asti [5]. Nimeä voidaan käyttää myös erisnimissä kuten esimerkiksi Ylä-Saimaan satama [6].[3]

Ylä-Saimaalle vastakkaista termiä käytetään vielä vesistöalueiden nimityksissä. Ala-Saimaan lähialue on järven ne alueet, jotka sijaitsevat Puumalansalmen alapuolella. Sitä laajempi Ala-Saimaan alue katta paljon laajemman alueen, mutta se sijaitsee Puumalansalmen alapuolella.[3][7][8]
