Videoerotuomari

Erotuomari tarkastelemassa videota kesken ottelun.

Videoerotuomari eli VAR (engl. video assistant referee) on jalkapallossa erotuomariston jäsen, joka avustaa erotuomaria tietyissä tilanteissa käyttäen hyväkseen ottelun videomateriaalia.[1]

VAR-protokollaa käytetään silloin, kun pelissä tapahtuu selkeä ja ilmeinen tuomarivirhe tai vakava huomaamatta jäänyt tapahtuma. Nämä tilanteet ovat maali, rangaistuspotku, suora punainen kortti ja väärän pelaajan poistaminen kentältä. Videoerotuomari tarkkailee videohuoneessa koko ajan TV-kuvaa ja tarkastaa automaattisesti kaikki edellä mainitut tilanteet. Hän katsoo tilanteita eri kamerakulmista ja eri toistonopeuksilla. Videoerotuomari ja muut erotuomariston jäsenet voivat suosittaa videotarkastelua erotuomarille, mutta erotuomari tekee itse päätöksen siitä, turvaudutaanko videotarkasteluun.[1] Jos videotarkasteluun ryhdytään, VAR kertoo erotuomarin korvanappiin käsityksensä tilanteen kulusta. Erotuomari voi tehdä päätöksensä VAR:n kertoman pohjalta tai mennä itse katsomaan tilanteen VAR-ruudulta kentän laidalta.[2]

Jalkapallotapahtumia, joissa VARia käytetään on muun muassa MM-kisat, Serie A, Valioliiga ja Bundesliiga.

Suomen Veikkausliigassa VAR:ia aletaan käyttää pilottina vuosina 2024–2025.[3]
