TASS (ven. Информационное агентство России «ТАСС», Informatsionnoje agentstvo Rossii «TASS», lyh. ТАСС) on Moskovassa keskuspaikkaansa pitävä valtio-omisteinen Venäjän uutistoimisto.[2][3] Yhtiömuodoltaan se on federatiivinen unitaarinen yritys (FGUP).[4] Yhtiömuodosta FGUP seuraa, että TASSin on lain mukaan toimittava Venäjän federaation etujen mukaan. Kyseessä ei siis ole valtiosta riippumaton uutistoimisto. Venäjän federaation vuoden 2014 budjetista Itar-Tassille myönnettiin 1,224 miljardin ruplan eli noin 27,0 miljoonan euron valtiontuki.[5][6]

Itar-Tassin toimitalo Moskovassa

Syyskuun 1. päivänä 1904 perustettiin Sankt Peterburgskoje telegrafnoje agentstvo (SPTA), joka oli tuolloisen Venäjän keisarikunnan ensimmäinen virallinen uutistoimisto. Tätä seurasi 1914 Petrogradskoje telegrafnoje agentstvo (PTA), 1918 Rossijskoje telegrafnoje agentstvo (RosTA eli Rosta) ja Rostasta 1925 muodostettu Neuvostoliiton sähketoimisto Telegrafnoje agentstvo Sovetskogo Sojuza (TASS eli Tass[7]) vuoteen 1992.[1]

Neuvostoajan jälkeen uutistoimiston nimilyhenteessä haluttiin pitää tunnetuksi tullut Tass, jolloin se tuli tarkoittamaan virallisen nimen tarkennetta, Telegrafnoje agentstvo svazi i soobštšenija eli Yhteydenpidon ja viestien sähketoimisto.

Syksyllä 2014 uutistoimisto muutti nimensä muotoon "TASS".[8]

TASS julkaisee päivittäin noin 2 000 uutisjuttua ja 600–800 valokuvaa tai videota.[9]
