Susanin kääntymys (Miracle on 34th Street) on George Seatonin ohjaama yhdysvaltalainen jouluelokuva vuodelta 1947. Elokuvassa tavaratalon joulupukkina työskentelevä Kris Kringle joutuu oikeuden edessä todistamaan olevansa oikea joulupukki. Elokuva sai kolme Oscar-palkintoa. Palkinnot tulivat parhaasta alkuperäistarinasta, parhaasta sovitetusta käsikirjoituksesta ja Edmund Gwennille parhaasta miessivuosasta roolistaan Kris Kringlenä.[1]

Elokuva valittiin vuonna 2005 Yhdysvaltojen kongressin kirjaston National Film Registryyn, johon kootaan esteettisesti, historiallisesti tai kulttuurisesti merkittäviä amerikkalaiselokuvia.[2] The New York Timesin kriitikot valitsivat Susanin kääntymyksen vuonna 2004 yhdeksi kaikkien aikojen tuhannesta parhaasta elokuvasta maailmassa.[3] American Film Institute valitsi sen vuonna 2006 kahdenkymmenen kaikkien aikojen innostavimman yhdysvaltalaiselokuvan joukkoon.[4]

Vastaanotto

Elokuva sai Suomessa ensi-iltansa helmikuussa 1949. Helsingin Sanomien Paula Talaskivi kirjoitti uutuuselokuvan lapsellisen tarinan jakavan mielipiteitä: kyynikot ihmettelevät, minkä aatteellisen ryhmäkunnan tilauksesta joulupukkitarina on sepitetty, kun taas hän itse pyyhki kyyneliä katsoessaan. Hänestä tekijät ovat ansainneet Oscarinsa: ”Kyllä tässä elokuvassa tavallista hauskemmin on osoitettu, miten hullua nyky-yhteiskunnassa on olla hyvä, rakastaa lähimmäisiään.” Hän piti myös elokuvan puolidokumentaarisesta tyylistä, jossa tapahtumapaikkana on aito New Yorkin Macy’s-tavaratalo.[5]
