Strappado

Strappado on kidutusmenetelmä, jossa uhrin kädet sidotaan selän taakse ja häntä riiputetaan ranteistaan tai joskus lievemmässä muodossa olkavarsistaan. Toisinaan uhria pudotellaan köysien varaan, jolloin olkapäät menevät sijoiltaan tai solisluut murtuvat. Strappado on keskiajalla nimetty ja nykyaikanakin harjoitettu kidutusmenetelmä. Pohjois-Vietnam käytti strappadoa vankien kuulusteluun Vietnamin sodassa. Myös natsit käyttivät menetelmää keskitysleireillään toisen maailmansodan aikana.

Strappado voi olla joko pitkäkestoista ja lievää tai erittäin nopeaa ja tuskallista. Kidutusmuoto tunnettiin jo keskiajalla, mutta sitä on käytetty myös nykyajan konflikteissa. Euroopan ihmisoikeustuomioistuin on 1996 todennut Turkin käyttäneen strappadoa.^[1]
