Roger Penrose (s. 8. elokuuta 1931 Colchester, Essex, Yhdistynyt kuningaskunta)[1] on englantilainen fyysikko ja matemaatikko Oxfordin yliopistosta. Hän on etsinyt fysiikan, biologian ja tietoisuuden riippuvuussuhteita ja kirjoittanut tekoälystä. Hän on myös opettanut Stephen Hawkingia. Penrose sai Nobelin fysiikanpalkinnon mustia aukkoja koskevista tutkimuksistaan vuonna 2020[2].

Penrose suoritti tohtorin tutkinnon algebrallisessa geometriassa Cambridgen yliopistossa vuonna 1957. Sen jälkeen hän on työskennellyt useissa yliopistoissa. Hänet aateloitiin palveluksistaan tieteen hyväksi vuonna 1994.[3]

Penrosen nuorempi veli Jonathan voitti shakin Britannian mestaruuden kymmenen kertaa vuosina 1958–1969.[1]

Roger Penrosen mukaan ovat saaneet nimensä Penrosen laatat ja Moore-Penrose -käänteismatriisi[4]. Lionel ja Roger Penrosen mukaan on nimetty myös Penrosen kolmio ja Penrosen portaat.

Hän on esittänyt myös teorian, jonka mukaan alkuräjähdystä edelsi toinen maailmankaikkeus.[5]
