Olavi Spännäri

Petri Kivimäki (oik.) haastattelee Olavi Spännäriä, taustalla Johannes Salomaan johtama Lappeenranta Big Band 60-vuotisjuhlakonsertissaan.

Arvo Olavi "Olli" Spännäri (7. heinäkuuta 1936 Juva – 23. tammikuuta 2017 Lappeenranta[1][2]) oli suomalainen muusikko ja multi-instrumentalisti. Hän aloitti musiikkiopinnot muuttaessaan äidinsä kanssa Lauritsalaan 1948 ja tultuaan hyväksytyksi Lauritsalan musiikkikannatusyhdistyksen soitto-oppilaaksi. Neljä vuotta myöhemmin hän siirtyi opiskelemaan soittamista varuskunnan soittokuntaan, josta siirtyi edelleen 1956 tykistöön esikuntatyöhön. Työuransa Spännäri tekikin upseerina puolustusvoimissa, mutta samaan aikaan hän soitti myös useissa yhtyeissä, ml. Lappeenranta Big Bandin trumpetistina.[3] Pitkäaikaisin kiinnitys Spännärillä oli Kalevi Pyysalon yhtyeeseen.[4]

Spännäri aloitti Lappeenranta Big Bandin kapellimestarina vuonna 1978 ja nosti sen tasoa merkittävästi. Spännärin johdolla orkesteri voitti big bandien suomenmestaruuden kolme kertaa ja teki kolme LP-levyä. Spännäri perusti Lappeenrantaan myös juniori- big bandin. Vuonna 1985 Spännäri alkoi johtaa Lappeenrannan työväenyhdistyksen soittokuntaa sekä vähän myöhemmin Ratsuväen perinnesoittokuntaa.[4] Spännäri totesi jo 60-vuotiaana, että lopettaa soittohommat vasta, kun hänet kannetaan (Lappeenrannan hautausmaa) Ristikankaalle.[3]

Sotilasarvoltaan Olavi Spännäri oli kapteeni, ja siitä tehtävästä hän jäi eläkkeelle 1981.[2] Hänelle oli myönnetty ansioistaan muun muassa Director Musices -arvonimi 1991 ja Suomen Big Band -yhdistyksen Count Basie -mitali.[2] Vuonna 2003 Spännäri valittiin Linnoituksen isännäksi Lappeenrannassa,[4] ja vuonna 1996 Lappeenrannan kaupunki palkitsi hänet kaupungin kulttuuripalkinnolla tunnustuksena hänen ansioistaan ja pitkäaikaisesta työstään varsinkin paikallisen puhallinmusiikin hyväksi.[5]
