Mikael Rutanen

Joonas Mikael Rutanen (25. syyskuuta 1883 Jyväskylän maalaiskunta – 15. maaliskuuta 1932 Petroskoi[1]) oli Yhdysvalloissa ja Neuvostoliitossa asunut suomalainen kirjailija.

Mikael Rutanen syntyi torpparin perheeseen. Hän työskenteli 12-vuotiaasta lähtien sahatyöläisenä ja muutti vuonna 1908 Yhdysvaltoihin, jossa hän työskenteli enimmäkseen metsätyöläisenä.[1][2]

Rutanen aloitti kirjallisen toimintansa suomalaisten työväenlehtien kirjeenvaihtajana. Hän julkaisi runojaan amerikansuomalaisissa työväenlehdissä, laati muutamia näytelmiä ja kirjoitti kaksi proosateosta.[1][2]

Rutanen liittyi Yhdysvaltain kommunistiseen puolueeseen vuonna 1919. Hän muutti vuonna 1931 rakentamaan Neuvosto-Karjalaa, jossa hän jatkoi toimintaansa runoilijana. Rutanen kuoli metsätöissä saamaansa vammaan.[2]
