Kausi 1976–1977 oli 37. kausi, jolloin pelattiin koripallon miesten Suomen mestaruudesta. SM-Koriksen mestaruuden voitti Turun NMKY. Playhonka voitti hopeaa ja Torpan Pojat pronssia. Hallitseva mestari Playboys ei lähtenyt puolustamaan mestaruuttaan, vaan fuusioitui Tapiolan Hongan kanssa. Yhdistelmä käytti nimeä Playhonka. HKT:n edustusjoukkue lyöttäytyi yhteen Panttereiden kanssa muodostaen uuden, Super-Pantterit nimisen seuran, jolle Koripalloliitto antoi suoraan toisen vapaista sarjapaikoista. Viimeisestä sarjapaikasta järjestettiin ylimääräinen karsinta ja siinä Pispalan Tarmo voitti Porvoon Tarmon nousten takaisin SM-sarjaan, josta se keväällä Panttereiden tapaan putosi.

Pispalan Tarmo ja Joensuun Kataja putosivat. Nousija Karkkilan Urheilijat ilmoitti keväällä luopuvansa sarjapaikastaan, joten Kataja pääsi ylimääräiseen karsintaan.
