Koptilaiskatolinen kirkko

Koptilaiskatolinen kirkko on aleksandrialaista liturgiaa noudattava kirkko, joka on suorassa pyhässä yhteydessä paavinistuimen kanssa ja näin ollen osa maailmanlaajuista katolista kirkkoa. Yksistään Egyptissä kirkolla on 163 000 jäsentä (2010).[1][2].

Koptilaiskatolilaiset muodostavat koptien katolisen vähemmistön, jonka olemassaolo perustuu skismaan vanhemman ja suuremman koptilais-ortodoksisen kirkon kanssa. Koptilaiskatolinen kirkko muodostaa oman patriarkaattinsa katolisen kirkon sisällä Pyhän istuimen alaisuudessa ja sitä johtaa tällä hetkellä patriarkka Antonios I Naguib, joka tuli Stephanos II Ghattasin seuraajaksi vuonna 2005. Patriarkaatin virastot sijaitsevat Kairossa. Pääkirkko Egyptin Neitsyt Marian katedraali (Our Lady of Egypt) sijaitsee Nasr Cityssä, Kairon modernissa esikaupungissa.

Historia

Vuonna 1741 Jerusalemin koptilainen piispa Amba Athanasius kääntyi katolilaiseksi. Paavi Benedictus XIV nimitti hänet seuraajiensa muodostaman pienen yhteisön (noin 2000 jäsentä) apostoliseksi vikaariksi. Vaikka Athanasius lopulta palasikin koptilais-ortodoksiseen kirkkoon, katolilaisten apostolisten vikaarien linja jatkui hänen jälkeensäkin.

Vuonna 1824 Pyhä istuin perusti koptikatolilaisille patriarkaatin, mutta se oli olemassa lähinnä vain muodollisesti paperilla. Vuonna 1829 ottomaaniviranomaiset sallivat koptikatolilaisten rakentaa omia kirkkojaan.

Vuonna 1895 Leo XIII perusti patriarkaatin uudelleen ja 1899 sen johtoon vihittiin piispa Kyrillos Makarios nimellä "patriarkka Kyrillos II Aleksandrialainen". Patriarkaatin vikaarina piispa Kyrillos oli johtanut vuonna 1898 koptikatolista kirkolliskokousta, joka loi useita latinalaisia käytäntöjä. Kyrillos vetäytyi 1908, ja virka täytettiin uudelleen vasta 1947.

Sääntökunnat

Koptikatolisella kirkolla ei ole ainoastaan kopteille tarkoitettuja luostareita. Sen sijaan kirkolla on uskonnollisia yhteisöjä, kuten naisten "Pyhän sydämen sisaret" (The Sisters of the Sacred Heart) ja "Jeesuksen ja Marian koptilaiset sisaret" (the Coptic Sisters of Jesus and Mary), jotka molemmat sijaitsevat Egyptissä, sekä "Jeesuksen pikkusisarten Egyptin provinssi". Kirkkoon kuuluu myös miesten fransiskaaniyhteisö.

Kirkon sosiaalinen toiminta

Koptikatolinen papisto saa koulutuksensa pääasiassa Pyhän Leon arkkipiispallisessa seminaarissa Kairossa. Yli 100 koptikatolista seurakuntaa ylläpitää yksityiskouluja sekä muutamia lukioita. Kirkolla on myös sairaala sekä lukuisia terveysasemia ja klinikoita ja erityisesti orpokoteja. Lisäksi useat koptikatolilaiset lännen kirkon tyyliin järjestetyt sääntökunnat osallistuvat koulutuksen, terveydenhuollon ja hyväntekeväisyyden järjestämiseen.
