Ibrahim Omer

Ibrahim Omer (s. 1978 Eritrea) on uusiseelantilainen työväenpuolueen poliitikko.[1][2]

Omer värvättiin Eritreassa sotilaaksi vuonna 2000. Hän pakeni Sudaniin vuonna 2003 ja työskenteli tulkkina YK:n pakolaisleirillä. Sudan pidätti Omerin epäiltynä vakoilusta, mutta Yhdistyneiden kansakuntien pakolaisjärjestön avulla hän sai vuonna 2008 mahdollisuuden muuttaa Uuteen-Seelantiin.[2] Omer teki aluksi sekalaisia työtehtäviä.[1] Sitten hän opiskeli Wellingtonin Victoria-yliopistossa politiikan tutkimusta ja kansainvälisiä suhteita.[2] Politiikassa Omer on muun muassa ajanut pienipalkkaisten työläisten ja pakolaisten etuja.[1]

Omer valittiin työväenpuolueen listoilta Uuden-Seelannin parlamentin jäseneksi vuonna 2020.[2] Hänestä tuli maan ensimmäinen afrikkalaissyntyinen parlamentaarikko ja iranilaissyntyisen Golriz Ghahramanin jälkeen toinen pakolaistaustainen parlamentaarikko. Omer on muslimi.[1]
