Eordaia

Eordaia (m.kreik. Ἐορδαία, myös Eordia, Ἐορδία, lat. Eordaea) oli antiikin aikainen alue ja myöhempi Makedonian valtakunnan osa Ylä-Makedoniassa pohjoisessa Kreikassa.[1]

Maantiede

Eordaia käsitti alueen Pindos-vuoriston ja Bermion (nyk. Vérmio) -vuoren välisellä alueella jälkimmäisen länsipuolella.[1] Sen itäpuolella sijaitsi Bottiaia, eteläpuolella Elimeia, lounaispuolella Orestis, luoteispuolella Lynkestis ja pohjoispuolella Almopia.

Eordaian kaupunkeja olivat Fyska (Fyskos) alueen pohjoisosissa, Begorra keskiosissa ja Galadrai eteläosissa.[1]

Historia

Eordaiaa asutti alun perin eordaialaisten heimo, joista käytettiin etnonyymejä Eordos (Ἐορδός) ja Eordaios (Ἐορδαῖος), latinaksi Eordaeus ja Eordensis. Makedoniaa johtaneet Argeadit ajoivat pääosan näistä pois alueelta vallattuaan sen Makedonialle. Alue säilytti silti aikaisemman nimensä.[1][2]

Kreikan nykyinen, samalla seudulla sijaitseva Eordaían kunta on ottanut nimensä alueesta.
