Divertikuloosi

Divertikuloosi on suolen umpipussitauti. Umpipussit eli divertikkelit syntyvät paksusuolen heikentyneiden kohtien pullistuessa paineen vaikutuksesta. Jos ne tulehtuvat, sitä kutsutaan divertikuliitiksi.[1]

Monet uskovat teoriaan, jonka mukaan runsaskuituinen ravinto ja tiheä ulostaminen pienentäisivät riskiä sairastua divertikuloosiin. Vuonna 2011 julkaistussa yhdysvaltalaistutkimuksessa havaittiin kuitenkin, että

runsaasti kuitua nauttivat ja usein ulostavat sairastuivat päin vastoin muita useammin divertikuloosiin. Tutkimuksessa havaittiin myös, että liikuntaa harrastavien tai rasvaista taikka punaista lihaa välttävien joukossa esiintyi sairautta yhtä usein kuin muillakin. Otoksena oli yli 2000 henkeä.[2]
