Dilmun

Barbarin temppelistä Bahrainista löydetty kuparinen häränpää (noin 2000 eaa.).

Dilmun oli muinaisen Lähi-idän sivilisaatio, joka kukoisti noin kolmannella vuosituhannella eaa. Sen keskus sijaitsi Bahrainin saarella Persianlahdella. Nimi Dilmun on sumerin kieltä. Se ilmaantuu sumerilaisiin lähteisiin vuoden 3000 eaa. tienoilla ja mainitaan tärkeänä kaukokaupan keskuksena. Dilmunin kautta kulki Sumerin ja Meluhhan välinen laivaliikenne. Sumerista vietiin maataloustuotteita ja maahan tuotiin kuparia, helmiä, jalo- ja korukiviä, hedelmiä, vihanneksia ja muita ylellisyystuotteita.[1]

Bahrainista on tehty useita arkeologisia löytöjä, jotka todistavat saaren pitkästä historiasta ja taloudellisesta kukoistuksesta muinaisina aikoina. Unescon maailmanperintökohde Qal’at al-Bahrain on niistä suurin. Jo noin vuonna 2800 eaa. alueella oli suuri asutuskeskus ja vuosina 2300–1800 eaa. muurien ympäröimä kaupunki. Bahrainista on löydetty myös meluhhalaista tai meluhhalaista vaikutusta edustavaa esineistöä. Dilmunin kulttuuriin liittyviä löytöjä on tehty useilla Persianlahden saarila ja Arabian niemimaan pohjoisrannikolla.[1]
