August Ferdinand Möbius (17. marraskuuta 1790 Schulpforta – 26. syyskuuta 1868 Leipzig) oli saksalainen matemaatikko ja teoreettinen tähtitieteilijä.[1] Hän syntyi Schulpfortassa Saksin vaaliruhtinaskunnassa ja kuoli Leipzigissa. Möbiuksen isä oli tanssinopettaja, ja hänen äitinsä oli Martti Lutherin jälkeläinen.[1]

Vuonna 1809 Möbius kirjoittautui Leipzigin yliopistoon, jossa hän aloitti oikeustieteen opinnot, joskin häntä kiinnostivat enemmän luonnontieteet. Möbius alkoikin opiskella matematiikkaa, fysiikkaa ja tähtitiedettä. Vuonna 1813 hän matkusti Göttingeniin, jossa hän opiskeli tähtitiedettä Carl Friedrich Gaussin johdolla. Möbius opiskeli myös Hallessa Johann Pfaffin johdolla matematiikkaa. Tohtoriksi hän väitteli vuonna 1813 tutkielmalla De computandis occultationibus fixarum per planeta.[1]

Möbius tunnetaan parhaiten Möbiuksen nauhasta, jonka hän keksi vuonna 1858. Möbiuksen nauha on yksipuolinen, eli siinä on vain yksi reuna ja yksi pinta.[2] Sen keksi samaan aikaan Möbiuksesta riippumatta Johann Benedict Listing. Möbius oli ensimmäinen, joka käytti homogeenisia koordinaatteja projektiivisessa geometriassa. Hän oli kiinnostunut lukuteoriasta, ja Möbiuksen funktio on nimetty hänen mukaansa.

Hänen mukaansa on myös nimetty asteroidi 28516 Möbius.
