Antti Karppinen

Antti Karppinen (6. toukokuuta 1923 Altona, Saksa – 16. toukokuuta 2015 Helsinki[1]) oli suomalainen ulkoasiainneuvos ja suurlähettiläs.

Karppinen syntyi Altonassa, jonne perhe oli muuttanut isän työn vuoksi Venäjällä viettämiensä vuosien jälkeen.[1] Karppisen isä oli työkomennuksella Latviassa 1927–1941 ja perhe asui Riiassa.

Karppinen kävi koulua ensin Riiassa ja sitten Berliinissä, jossa hän valmistui ylioppilaaksi. Jatkosodan aikana 1942–1944 hän palveli Suomen puolustusvoimissa. Hän valmistui 1954 filosofian kandidaatiksi Helsingin yliopistosta ja meni samana vuonna Suomen ulkoasiainministeriön palvelukseen.

Karppinen toimi ministerineuvoksena Suomen suurlähetystössä Moskovassa 1968–1971 ja pääkonsulina Leningradissa 1973–1980. Tämän jälkeen hän oli suurlähettiläänä Prahassa 1980–1985 ja Bonnissa 1985–1990.

Eläkkeellä Karppinen kirjoitti 1999–2006 kolmiosaisen Venäjän aatetta jäljittämässä -kirjasarjan ja toimi ulkoministeriön ja Helsingin yliopiston Aleksanteri-instituutin Venäjä-asiantuntijana. Hän sai vuonna 2011 Helsingin yliopiston valtiotieteellisen tiedekunnan promootiossa kunniatohtorin arvon.
