Kur

Kur hitzak sumertar testuetan mendiak izendatzen zituen (Bere lehen esanahietako bat "mendia" dela adierazten da, horretarako erabiltzen den zeinua benetan mendi bat irudikatzen duen piktograma bat delako)[1], eta bereziki Zagros mendiak, Mesopotamiaren ekialdean zeudenak; beraz, atzerria edo muga geografiko horretatik harantzago egon ohi ziren atzerritarrak izendatzeko ere erabiltzen zen. Hildakoen egoitzari buruz ere hitz egiteko erabiltzen zen; izan ere, hildakoen sarrera goizero eguzkia irteten zen mendi haietan egon zitekeen.[2]

Kur hitz sumertarra identifikatzen eta interpretatzen oso zaila da, esanahi anitz baititu. Gorago aipatu direnez gain, kur ere "lurra" esan nahi zuen orokorrean; Sumer bera Kur-gal bezala deskribatzen da, "lurralde handia".
