Bright Young People edo Bright Young Things (euskaraz: «Gazte argiak») prentsa britainiarrak Londresko 1920ko Hamarkada Zoriontsuaren (Roaring Twenties) aristokrata gazte hedonista talde bati eman zion ezizena zen. Bright Young Peoplen partaide zati handi bat Eton Collegeko ikasle ohiak ziren. Fenomenoa beste herrialdetan ere bere adierazpenak izan zituen.[1]

Fenomenoa

Bright Young People 1920ko hamarkadan Europan zabaldu zen gazte kultura hedonistaren adierazpidea izan zen. Gizarte berri horrek bohemia, gau giroa eta goi klaseak nahasten zituen. Bright Young People urte haietako Erresuma Batuko gazteen kultura ikusgarri izan zen, masa gizartea Europan hedatzen ari zen urtetan. Bright Young Peoplek kontrolik gabeko droga kontsumoaren, jazz musikaren,[2] sexu frenesiaren eta eskandaluzko parranden bitartez gizarte tradizionalaren ohiturak irauli nahi zituen.[3] Brenda Dean Paul eta Nancy Cunard mugimendu horren goi klaseko ordezkari suminkor eta zital bilakatu ziren.

Gerra bukatu berriak gizartearen ohiturak eta antolaketa aldatu zituen. Gerran gizon asko zendu ziren, bestetik; hortaz, miloi bat emakume gehiago zegoen. Emakumeak jada ez ziren berehala ezkontzen eta askeago izateko borondate garbia zuten. Gatazkan parte hartu zuten herrialdeatan hedonismoarekin lotutako fenomeno desberdinak eman ziren, nolabait galdutako urteak berreskuratzeko asmoz:

  • Erresuma Batuan: AEBetako kultura kontsumista erabat errotu zen gazteen artean, eta modernitate horren abangoardian emakumeak kokatu ziren. Sufragistek bozkatzeko eskubide partziala lortu zuten, eta antisorgailuak zabaltzen hasi ziren. Gerrako ahaleginaren ondorioz, emakumeek independentzia handiagoa lortu zuten.
  • Parisen, gazte estatubatuar asko Frantziako hiriburura joan ziren, gau giroko festa basatiek erakarrita. Haiekin kontsumismoa eta hedonismoa zabaldu zen.
