Autoglotonimo
Autoglotonimoa herri batek bere hizkuntzari ematen dion izena da. Askotan, herri horrek eta bere hizkuntzak daukaten harremanaren inguruko datu soziolinguistikoak atera daitezke hortikː esaterako, castellano / español bikotea gaztelaniaz, asturianu / llionés asturieraz edo katalanez valencià / català bezalako bikoteek egoera soziolinguistikoaren berri ematen dute.
Aldiz, kanpotarrek auzotarren hizkuntza jakin bati ematen dioten izenari heteroglotonimoa esaten zaio[1].
Adibidez, euskara hitza autoglotonimoa dugu, eta lekuan lekuko hitz horren aldaera guztiak (eskuara, euskera, üskara...) ere bai, baina vasco, vascuence, basque, basc, Basque eta auzoko hizkuntzetan erabiltzen diren gainerako izenak heteroglotonimoak dira.
