Pier Leone Ghezzi (28 de junio de 1674 – 6 de marzo de 1755) fue un pintor y caricaturista italiano, activo en Roma.

Biografía

Nacido en Roma,[1]​[2]​ fue hijo del pintor Giuseppe Ghezzi por el que fue instruido junto al futuro pintor Antonio Amorosi.

Posteriormente Pier Leone se codea en los mejores círculos artísticos romanos y comienza con diversos oficios ligados a la pintura. Miembro de la Academia de San Lucas, fue protegido por el papa Clemente XI y nombrado pintor oficial de la Cámara Apostólica en 1706, en la que realizó entre otros encargos retratos oficiales.

Fue yerno del pintor Carlo Maratta.

Pier Leone Ghezzi realizó los frescos de la Villa Falconieri de Frascati y varios lienzos de temática religiosa para diversas iglesias de Roma, pero es recordado sobre todo por sus caricaturas, dibujos inspirados en personajes diversos de la sociedad y el panorama de la época (prelados, artistas, nobles, turistas extranjeros, etc), en los cuales exagera hábilmente las posturas y rasgos físicos del personaje.
