Mesopotamia superior, Alta Mesopotamia o Al-Yazira (/ld͡ʒa'zirah/) en Arameo: ܓܙܪܬܐ, Gozarto es la denominación geo-historiográfica de la zona situada "aguas arriba" de y que se corresponde a grandes rasgos con la zona nuclear del antiguo Imperio asirio. Son las tierras altas y gran planicie del noroeste del actual Irak y noreste de la actual Siria, que es conocida localmente por el nombre árabe tradicional de Al-Ŷazira (الجزيرة āl-Ŷazīrah, transcrito al alfabeto latino como Djazirah, Djezirah y Jazirah).

Se extiende hacia el sur desde las montañas de Anatolia, y al este desde las colinas sobre la margen izquierda del río Éufrates, al oeste de las montañas sobre la margen derecha del río Tigris e incluye la planicie de Sinjar. Se extiende por el Tigris hasta Samarra y aguas abajo del Éufrates hasta Hit. El río Jabur corre por una extensión de 400 km cruzando la planicie, desde Turquía en el norte, confluyendo en el Éufrates. Las principales poblaciones son Mosul, Deir ez-Zor, Ar-Raqqah, Al-Hasakah, Busayrah, Diyarbakır y Qamishli. La parte occidental, en territorio de Siria, se encuentra contigua a la gobernación siria de Al-Hasakah. La parte iraquí, por el este, incluye y se extiende un poco más allá de la gobernación iraquí de Nínive.
