Meishan léase Méi-Shan (en chino simplificado, 眉山市; pinyin, Méishān sh) es una ciudad-prefectura en la provincia de Sichuan, República Popular China. A una distancia aproximada de 70 kilómetros de la capital provincial. La ciudad se encuentra al suroeste de la Cuenca de Sichuan. Limita al norte con Chengdu, al sur con Leshan, al este con Ya'an y al este con Ziyang. Su área es de 7186 km² y su población es de 3,4 millones.

Toponimia

El nombre de la ciudad traduce literalmente a Monte Mei, este nombre deriva del monte Emei (峨眉山) , famosa montaña budista en China, doble patrimonio cultural y natural mundial. El monte Emei se encuentra al suroeste de la provincia de Sichuan, en el extremo suroeste de la cuenca de Sichuan. Es una de las "Cuatro montañas famosas budistas" de China. Su altura es de 3099 m s. n. m. y su prominencia supera los 2700 metros. Mei traduce al español como "ceja" y viene de un antiguo fragmento; son como cejas, delgadas, largas, hermosas y coloridas.

El carácter E (峨) es la ligadura de dos caracteres en sí, el primero es 山 (shan) , el radical, que se utiliza en representación de montaña y 我 (wo) es para representarse así mismo; yo, nuestro, auto, etc. A veces el carácter shan va arriba de wo, (峩) pero su significado no varía. La interpretación para E (峨) es alto o imponente.

Clima

La ciudad de Meishan se encuentra en el curso medio del río Minjiang. La parte principal de su jurisdicción se encuentra en la llanura de Chengdu. Los distritos de Dongpo y Pengshan, más el condado de Qingshen se encuentran principalmente en la llanura de Chengdu, mientras que el resto se encuentra en terreno montañoso.
