Carlos de Gonzaga-Nevers, (22 de octubre de 1609 - Cavriana, 14 de agosto de 1631), hijo del Duque de Mantua Carlos I de Gonzaga-Nevers y de su esposa Catalina de Mayena. Fue el duque de Nevers y Rethel, junto con su padre. Al morir antes que su padre, el Ducado pasó a manos de la regencia de su esposa María de Gonzaga y más tarde a su hijo Carlos II de Gonzaga-Nevers.
En 1621, sucedió a su tío Enrique de Mayena como duque de Mayena. Su padre, Carlos I al morir Vicente II Gonzaga de Mantua, último duque de la rama principal de los Gonzaga, le casó en 1627 con su prima María de Gonzaga, hija de Francisco IV Gonzaga de Mantua.
María entregó como dote el Ducado de Mantua y el marquesado de Montferrato, cuyo título pasó a su suegro con la intención de traspasárselo más tarde a Carlos. Sin embargo, César II Gonzaga, Duque de Guastalla y el emperador Fernando II de Habsburgo no aceptaron esta línea de sucesión, lo que llevó a la Guerra de Sucesión de Mantua (1628–1631).
Carlos nunca llegó a ser el verdadero duque de Mantua puesto que murió en Cavriana seis años antes que su padre, el 14 de agosto de 1631 dejando dos hijos pequeños. Carlos II de Gonzaga-Nevers, su único hijo varón; tenía solamente ocho años cuando también murió su abuelo, en 1637. Este niño se convirtió en duque de Mantua pero hasta su mayoría de edad, fue la viuda María quien se hizo cargo de los asuntos de Estado como Regente. Su hija Leonor Gonzaga-Nevers se convirtió en emperatriz del Sacro Imperio Romano Germánico.
Fue enterrado en el santuario de Santa María de la Gracia, en las afueras de Mantua.[1]
Carlos contrajo matrimonio en diciembre de 1627 con su prima María de Gonzaga, en un matrimonio arreglado por Vicente II Gonzaga con quien tuvo tres hijos:[2]
