Preĝejo (la pinto de la turo estas riparata)

Rupelmonde (nederlande: [ry:p'lMONd']) estas vilaĝo kiu dependas de la ĉefa municipo Kruibeke. La vilaĝo situas ĉe la rivero Skeldo sur la kontraŭa riverbordo de la enfluejo de la rivero Rupel en la Skeldon. La domo kie naskiĝis Gerardus Mercator havas memortabulon pri la fama kartografo.

Historio

Ekde la 12-a jarcento Rupelmonde disvolviĝis al grava komercejo. En 1271 Margaretha van Constantinopel donis al Rupelmonde la privilegion postuli impostojn de la transportistoj sur la riveroj Skeldo kaj Rupel. Ekde la 14-a jarcento Rupelmonde posedis urbajn rajtojn. En la malfruaj mezepokaj tempoj, pro multe da militoj, ekestis ekonomia malprospero.

En la 19-a jarcento ekonomio reprosperis, ĉefe pro starigo de brikofarejoj kaj saloproduktado. Tiu ĉi produktado finiĝis pro la tro malgranda areo de la urbeto kaj ĉirkaŭ 1880 la brikoproduktado translokiĝis al apuda vilaĝo Steendorp kie oni ĝis nun pluproduktas.

  • La preĝejo Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk konstruiĝis en 1757-1758. La preĝejo posedas multe da skulptaĵoj kaj pentraĵon Vizito de sankta Maria al sia nevino Elizabeto. Tiu ĉi estas kopio de pentraĵo de Jacob Jordaens, de li farita por tiu ĉi preĝejo. La originala pentraĵo estis en 1794 ŝtelita de la francoj kaj troviĝas nun en Lyon, Francio.

  • La grenmuelejo de Rupelmonde estas restaŭrita kaj funkcianta por la turistoj. Ĝi estas unika pro la fakto ke ĝia meĥanismo estas funkciigata per la diferenco de la tajdoj de la Skeldo. Kiam la akvorezervujo estas plena kaj en la rivero estas malalta tajdo, la muelisto povas trafluigi la akvon kaj tio turnigas la radojn kaj muelŝtonon.
