Populacio

En biologio, populacio estas aro da samspeciaj individuoj, kiu reproduktiĝas. Povas temi kaj pri la tutmonda populacio de iu konkreta specio, kaj pri populacio de tiu sama specio en difinita loko (regiono, insulo, valo, ktp.). Populacio da homoj kutime nomiĝas loĝantaro, dum la vorto "populacio" uzeblas ankaŭ por bestoj.

Se la populacio de difinita specio malpliiĝas draste, oni konsideras, ke ĝi estas en danĝero kaj oni eventuale bezonas konservadan planon.

En ekologio, la populacio estas konsiderata elementa unuo.[1] [2] La izolitan teritorion, kie vivas populacio de specio, oni nomas habitato.
