Historio

Oro kaj aliaj valoraj metaloj estis prilaboritaj de homoj tra ĉiuj kulturoj, kiam la metaloj estis haveblaj, surloke aŭ importitaj. Ekzistas belegaj tiaj objektoj el antikvaj kulturoj en Eŭropo, Afriko, Hindio, Azio, suda, centra kaj norda Ameriko.

En la mezepoka Eŭropo oraĵistoj estis organizitaj en gildoj kaj ili kutime estis unu el la plej grava kaj riĉa gildo en iu urbo. La gildo konservis liston de membroj kaj de la simboloj, kiujn ili uzis sur siaj fabrikaĵoj. Tiaj listoj multe helpas al historiistoj.
