Bakĥantinoj - (helene Μαινάδες, latine Bacchae) estis en la helena mitologio akompanantinoj de la dio de vino Dionizo aŭ Bakĥo. Ili estis ankaŭ nomataj menadoj („frenezaj“ aŭ „deliraj“, thijadoj aŭ Basaridoj). Ili okazigadis sovaĝajn dancojn nomataj niktelioj (la dio Dionizo estis iam nomata Niktelio). Iam ili faladis en staton proksiman al frenezo en kiu ili kapablis ĉion. En longaj togoj aŭ en bestaj feloj dediĉis sin en ekstaza delirado al sovaĝaj hastmovoj. Kompanianoj de ili estis Silenoj, Centaŭroj, Pajnoj, Satirusoj, nimfoj kaj eĉ ankaŭ Muzoj. Ĉe tio sonis laŭte sovaĝa muziko. Signo de Bakĥantinoj estis tirso, bastono ĉirkaŭvolvita per hedero aŭ vito, en la manoj ili havis serpentojn kaj ponardojn. Ili ĵetis sin al oferataj bestoj, disŝiradis ilin je pecoj kaj manĝis la karnon kruda.

Aliro de viroj al la festoj estis malpermesita, alie minacis al ili eĉ morto.

Kiam foje Dionizo venis kun sia akompanaro en Trakion, trakia reĝo Likurgo la procesion dispelis, kelkajn Bakĥantinojn trudkaptis, iujn eĉ mortigis. Dionizo mem devis savi sin per fuĝo kaj salto en maron. Dionizo Likurgon kruele punis, sendis al li frenezecon, en kiu la reĝo mortigis sian propran filon kaj lian kadavron eĉ kripligis. Plie li forhakis siajn krurojn opiniante, ke li neniigas viton. Poste la reĝolandon ruinigis pesto kaj komencis longa rikoltmanko. Laŭ la orakolo devis Linkurgo morti. Sovaĝiĝita popolo venigis la reĝon sur monton Pangaiono kaj tie disŝirigis lin per ĉevaloj.

La teba reĝo Penteo malpermesis adori la dion de vino. Foje li eĉ Dionizon kun lia akompanaro trudkaptis. Bakĥantinoj diskuriĝis kaj en bakĥantina frenezeco disŝiradis unue brutaron, poste ili turniĝis kontraŭ Penteo mem kaj diskarnigis eĉ lin. Sovaĝajn virinojn gvidis Pentea patrino Agaŭo, kiu propramane falpuŝis de sia filo la kapon.

Bakĥantinoj (CARESME, Jacques Philippe, París, 1734-1796)

Bakĥantinoj estis virinoj mitaj, sed ankaŭ realaj. Ili ambaŭ faris dum bakĥanalioj tumultojn. Jam en la antikva Romio devis kontraŭ ili interveni la ŝtata potenco. Cetere la esprimo „bakĥanalio“ konserviĝis ĝis hodiaŭ por priskribi sovaĝajn drinkadojn kaj senbridajn amuzojn.
