Randolph, thanks for your participation in WikiProject Women's History. Since you've given Wikipedia assignments for courses before, I'd love to have your input on the new subproject for educators. If you'd be willing to provide links to assignments you've given and share your experiences, that would be really valuable for other faculty. And, of course, please spread the word about this to your colleagues (on Wikipedia or not). I've just added a link to the assignment you posted on the talk page in the Women's/gender history assignments section. Hi Randolph.hollingsworth. I saw your post at WikiProject Women's History and wondered if you knew about the Kentucky Commission on Women. There's a fair amount of crossover between the women listed there and your list of Kentucky women from the Civil Rights era. I was working on women's halls of fame a while back and there are a bunch listed at Template:United States Women's Halls of Fame, but Kentucky's isn't done yet. I believe that the Commission's Kentucky Women Remembered list could be made into an article and linked from that template. Let me know if you're interested in starting an article for Kentucky Women Remembered. Otherwise I may take a stab at it someday. Cheers, Gobōnobō+c07:02, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__
["c-Randolph.hollingsworth-2013-01-15T18:55:00.000Z-Gobonobo-2013-01-15T07:02:00.000Z
Gobōnobō"}}-->
Awesome, Gobōnobō! Yes, we have been working with Commissioner Jordan each semester I've offered the class. And you might see on some of the articles, anytime i could get the artist's permission to use the KY Women Remembered portrait, I've gotten it added to Wikimedia. We need help getting this going for all of them! This semester, I told Eleanor my class is working with the kY Commission on Human Rights as our service learning partner... But that I had seen the Hall of Fame entries for the other states and wondered if she wanted us to do Kentucky ... She said YES! and her staff is sending me the basic info for the list soon. I would greatly appreciate your help in getting a KY HoF article drafted properly and up sometime this spring! As you can see in the previous msgs, I am having some difficulty in getting my list article correctly formatted and published. Any suggestions there (see my sandbox)? I'd be happy to try and help. I think the biggest hurdle with the list is defining its scope. The reason I mentioned developing a list from Kentucky Women Remembered is that the inclusion criteria are predefined, obviating the need to develop them. The inclusion criteria for your list (or index) should be clearly defined and may be a tad too specific. Focusing on Kentucky women is a given. Narrowing that to civil rights (broadly defined) could get a little hairy, but is probably doable. However, I think that limiting the list to a specific era with set years (1920s-1970s) could be problematic. First off, we'll need to know if women are eligible for inclusion if they were merely alive during that period or whether they have to have been active in civil rights activism during that period. How are you defining "civil rights" in this context? If you're including women's suffrage and abolitionism under that umbrella, you're going to be missing some women by only listing those who flourished after 1920. Gobōnobō+c02:31, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__
["c-Randolph.hollingsworth-2013-01-16T16:51:00.000Z-Gobonobo-2013-01-16T02:31:00.000Z
Gobōnobō"}}-->
The Open Knowledge Initiative I'm working on is only about the time period after 1920 - of course, people's lives don't always fit neatly into a historical period but we always shove them in there, right? For example, Thomas Jefferson does not only neatly fits in the time period we associate with the American Revolution (depending on his particular time of life lived), but he also fits into the New National Republic Era (after the Revolution) beautifully for his work as a president, AND in the U.S. Antebellum period because of his family (families!) life (lives) as an innovative agrarian/industrialist and slaveowner as well as the father of free, freed and enslaved people. It gets very confusing, right? But somehow, it often seems ok when we're talking about men's lives to put one of them in different time periods based on the concepts/themes, but more troublesome if we imagine a woman as belonging very naturally in different historical time periods. Your comment was very helpful - I'm going to go back to my sandbox and try to explain that better. We're not wanting to include in this proposed list any of the U.S. abolitionists (1790s-1860s) or those involved in the woman's suffrage movement in the U.S. (1790s-1920), but focus on instead Kentucky women and their role in civil rights efforts after the 19th Amendment (1920) and up through the first stirrings of the Women's Liberation Movement coming up out of the African-American Civil Rights Movement (1960s and 70s). Does this help clarify? If I were creating a list for the Kentucky Women Remembered, I would use a sortable table such as the one used in the Alaska Women's Hall of Fame. Sorting that list by birth date gives readers a general idea of the era that women are active in. Perhaps dropping the specific year criteria from your list and using a sortable table would do the trick. Great idea - let's use this example once we get the info from the Commission on Women. I think you're mixing up the two projects in your last sentence above...? My list I've submitted (and which is still being held up by Wiki reviewers) has to do with my Open Knowledge Initiative www.kywcrh.org on Kentucky Women's History and the Long Civil Rights Era of the 20th century. I was using those as examples of how a list that spanned many eras could still be useful to readers who are only interested in women from a specific era. It is entirely possible that Wikipedia's guidelines for lists/articles (and editors' interpretations of those guidelines) will not allow for a list that is going to exactly match your Open Knowledge Initiative. Very specific lists like this are unlikely to be linked to from other articles and tend to languish. Regardless, I'm willing to try it out and see if we can't make it work. If it is nominated for deletion, my guess is that it will be kept with a broader scope. I'll go ahead and move the article to the main space and make some small adjustments. If the article name isn't quite what it should be we can always move it. Please note that women are not added directly to Category:Women in politics; that's an international category that would contain tens of thousands of women from all over the world (and thus be virtually unusable) if it were actually being used that way. Rather, each country has its own country-specific subcategory (e.g. Category:American women in politics) and each US state has its own state-specific one (e.g. Category:Women in Kentucky politics) — so each individual woman goes only in the most specifically appropriate subcategory and not in the undifferentiated worldwide one. Hello and welcome to the Writing Wikipedia Articles course (#WIKISOO)! We look forward to meeting you in the first class on 25 February (Americas)/26 Feb (Asia/Australia). By now you should have received an introductory email with some details about the course. If you can't find it, there's an archived copy of the email at this link.
To attend the live session, please check our course home page for instructions and the link. We recommend logging into Blackboard Collaborate (the live class software we use) before the day of class, to be sure it's working. (More tips on the home page.)
If taking the course in self-paced mode, please come say hello on the course talk page so we know who you are! Thanks for signing up, and we'll see you Tuesday! - Pete (talk) 06:15, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__
-->

Hi! Just a quick reminder that the second WIKISOO class starts in about 3 hours. Even if you missed Week 1, please join us at this link for the live webinar - ideally about 15 minutes early to test your mic/speakers. If you haven’t finished up your Week 1 homework, there’s still time; post any questions on the class talk page! You can also watch a video of last week’s class on YouTube (earlier audio problems have been corrected). Hi Randolph.hollingsworth, we look forward to seeing you in class in a few hours. We look forward to seeing you in class in a few hours. Here's the link to our Week 3 class page and to the live webinar.
PLEASE NOTE: If you're not in the USA, please double-check the class time. We have gone on Daylight Savings Time (also known as Summer Time) in the USA, so for some of you the class time will be an hour earlier. (If your country goes on Summer Time in the coming weeks, you will want to check again!)
This week we are going to start off with some basic review of all we've covered. So if you've been feeling behind or confused by all the details, we'll make sure we've got your questions answered before forging ahead! Hi Randolph.hollingsworth, I'm sending you this message because you're one of about 300 users who have recently edited an article in the umbrella category of open educational resources (OER) (or open education). In evaluating several projects we've been working on (e.g. the WIKISOO course and WikiProject Open), my colleague Pete Forsyth and I have wondered who chooses to edit OER-related articles and why. Regardless of whether you've taken the WIKISOO course yourself - and/or never even heard the term OER before - we'd be extremely grateful for your participation in this brief, anonymous survey before 27 April. No personal data is being collected. If you have any ideas or questions, please get in touch. My talk page awaits. How to pick up more women...
Hello to the members of WikiProject Women writers! Victuallers and I have developed a proposal for a talk to be presented at Wikimania 2015. It's titled, How to pick up more women -- as in more women editors and more women's biographies. The proposal review process has begun and there's no guarantee that this proposal will be accepted. That's where you come in. Please review our proposal and give us feedback. Ultimately, we hope you add your name to the signup at the bottom of the proposal which signifies you're interested in the talk (it does not signify you'll be attending the event). Thank you! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.
If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Hi there! I couldn't help but notice you created the page on the wonderful Elizabeth Fouse! I am also very passionate about women's history in Kentucky and I am trying to publish an article about Mary Jane Warfield Clay (she was an early suffragist and oversaw the construction of White Hall while her husband Cassius Clay remained in Russia). She also has a chapter in my favorite book, Kentucky Women: Their Lives and Times. I was wondering if you could help with the article so it has a better chance of being published this time around (it was rejected at first). Thank you so much for your contributions!

I'm reaching out because of your mention on the article's talk page. In its current state, the article could really use some credible citations. I've done some work pruning the article for some unencyclopedic descriptions, but it would be great to add citations to this article since it is a fundamental part of the last public execution in the USA. I'd be happy to do the work if you have any insight, or if you'd like to add citations yourself that'd be great too! I'm asking primarily because you're more likely to have knowledge of sources I don't :) --Marx01Tell me about it09:18, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__
["c-Marx01-2020-06-30T04:55:00.000Z-Marx01-2020-06-25T09:18:00.000Z"]}}-->

Thanks for joining, Randolph, and welcome to the project. Gender and ethnicity are of course areas we are deeply interested in. If you have any ideas for further work on these, you should bring them up for discussion on our WiR talk page. If you haven't already done so, you might find it useful to look through our Primer for creating women's biographies. As many of your articles have been about women involved in women's rights issues, you might well be interested in contributing to our focus on the topic throughout the year. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Hi Randolph, just a heads-up that I had to roll back the H-Net article to a 2019 version, due to large, POV edits by someone employed by the organization. Unfortunately, this resulted in several edits of yours from a year ago being removed at the same time. I'm sorry about that, and if you want to reinstate them, I'll work with you on that. Let me know. The Women in Red Barnstar
In recognition of the four in-depth articles you have recently written on women who were prominent in the religious history of New Zealand, especially your beautifully presented Rachel Hull Don. We look forward to many more.

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellingtonand we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics.
