To Do
One new Judaism-related article was created this month, the long requested Hebrew Punctuation. Thanks to Epson291 for creating it. Remember, folks, there are over forty standing requests for Judaism articles, so whenever you get the opportunity make sure to go create a few.
In the right column you will see a listing of our most popular articles. All of these articles got 170,000+ page hits in the past month, and they should be on everyone's watchlist so we can keep them vandalism-free.
Spread the word! No, not the Word... (well, you can do that too) I'm talking about inviting knowledgeable users to join the project. You can proclaim your undying love of WikiProject Judaism in methods mild to wild, check the project template page and member list for examples. We also now have a flashy advertisement, to use it add {{Wikipedia ads|ad=148}} to your userpage.

Hi Fintor: I am reposting the following request from User Sh76us (talk·contribs) on my user talk page for wider notification:
I was thinking of trying to stimulate development of a series of articles on Gemara concepts and doctrines, maybe to help children or newcomers to Gemara with explanations of some fundamental concepts that recur throughout the Gemara. Some examples might be articles on Yiush, Chazakah, Ta'aninun (as in "Ta'aninun L'Yoresh"), Eidim Zomemin (forgive my awful transliterations), Migu, etc., etc. Maybe we could even create a category or subcategory for it. I created Breira in this vein. As I don't have the experience or expertise in Wikipedia to know what to do to best develop this idea, I figured I'd come to you for your opinions on: (1) whether it's a good idea; and (2) How to best go about implementing it. Thanks Sh76us (talk) 15:56, 14 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2008-01-14T15:56:00.000Z","author":"Sh76us","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Sh76us-2008-01-14T15:56:00.000Z-Idea_for_Talmud_articles","replies":[]}}-->
Hey there, Fintor. Today I was fixing the referencing on Samson Raphael Hirsch and thought that the article is actually in a fairly reasonable state. Wouldn't it be nice, given our collective hard work on this article in the past, if we could improve it to the level of good article? All that is presently needed is a slightly better handle on the matter of his philosophical legacy, which is partially cited and perhaps a bit WP:NOR (although I agree with the basic premise that there are three views). Hi Fintor! On 30 July I edited Paul Wilmott to delete numerous claims that were not supported by any inline citation. Several hours later you restored some of these claims but at least some of them are still not supported by any inline citation.
At WP:BURDEN you will find the statement: The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material. All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged should be attributed to a reliable, published source using an inline citation.
Note that the burden must be carried by the editor who adds or restores material. When an editor deletes unsourced material there is no burden on him or her to provide evidence as to why it was deleted, other than evidence that there is nothing accompanying the material to demonstrate its verifiability.
When adding or restoring text to Wikipedia it is important that it is supported by sufficient information to confirm that the text is verifiable. For example, you restored the paragraph saying He studied mathematics at St Catherine’s College, Oxford University, where he received his D.Phil. I am not doubting this statement, and I’m sure you restored it because you know that it is true. However, at WP:Verifiability you will find the statement: The threshhold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth.
If a statement appears in an encyclopedia, and Wikipedia in particular, it is not sufficient for the statement to be true – it must be verifiable. There must be an inline citation, or at least a reference, which shows an independent source for this statement.
Please remove the statement about Paul Wilmott studying mathematics at Oxford and receiving a D.Phil until you are able to provide adequate information to establish its verifiability. Please also check the other statements you restored on 30 July and satisfy yourself that the accompanying inline citation actually verifies the statement. Please also avoid unencyclopedic, subjective, claims like Wilmott is best known .... An encyclopedia strives to be objective throughout.
For biographical articles in WP, there are strict criteria. See WP:BIO. Paul Wilmott may not qualify for retention in WP and the article may one day be nominated for deletion. Ensuring all statements are verifiable (by using inline citations) will reduce the likelihood of the article being nominated for deletion. Happy editing! Now with 200% more Jewishness!
Yes, folks, we're moving on up. This newsletter is now the newsletter for both WikiProject Judaism, WikiProject Jewish History, and WikiProject Kabbalah. In the future, I may split them, but for now I think we'll be just fine with one. As always, any questions or comments should be directed to me, L'Aquatique.
A Special Dispatch
Just a note, not aimed at anyone in particular. By order of the administrative cabal, it is officially not cool (and possibly dickish) to call someone an anti-semite when they aren't being anti-semitic. Anti-semitic is a very charged word, and it's important only to use it when you're absolutely sure it applies, lest it become the subject of a Godwin-esque law. Remember Hanlon's Razor: never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. In the News
A new class on the importance scale has been added- C Class- which covers articles better than start but not quite to B Class yet. It is up to the WikiProjects to decide whether to adopt them or not. Currently, there has been little discussion within our Projects, so if you feel strongly either way be sure to note so at your Project[s].
Thanks largely to the efforts of Xyz7890, a new navbox has come into being featuring Halakha topics. See: Template talk:Halakha to join in the conversation about how it can best be improved.
To Do
The Simple English Wikipedia is beginning a project of creating and improving articles related to religion, including Judaism. At the present time, volunteers are needed to propose our most important subjects for articles to be created. The official working list is here and a more extended list is here. If you are unsure of proper topics, you might try checking our lists of top importance level articles: Judaism and Jewish History. (WikiProject Kabbalah currently doesn't have such a list)
[Simple English] WikiProject Christianity is considering running a monthly drive wherein two or three top importance articles from English Wikipedia are simplified and moved over to S.E. They have extended an offer to work with us in creating a similar project for Judaism related articles. For questions or volunteer opportunities, please contact User:John Carter.
WikiProject Kabbalah is in dire need of an article rating system for quality and importance. If you are familiar with that system and have some time on your hands, please create one. It could also use some infoboxes...

"Censorship" of names of G-d
There is an interesting discussion currently taking place regarding whether or not it is acceptable to censor (i.e. G-d, HaShem->YodHey) names of G-d in articles to protect Jews who may be reading or editing the article. You can weigh in here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Judaism#Yahweh.
Article Cleanup Lists User:B. Wolterding has generously offered us use of his bot to generate lists that show which articles of ours are tagged for cleanup. You can read more about this service here: User:B._Wolterding/Cleanup_listings and if you would like to take him up on his offer, contact him on his talk page.
WikiProject Kabbalah's only Featured and Good articles have been removed from the WikiProject, on the grounds that neither article (Diane Keaton and David Beckham, respectively) actually mention the subject's affiliation with Kabbalah. If you have sourced information linking either of these people to Kabbalah, please add it so the articles can be returned to the WikiProject.
After a rather heated discussion, there are now two barnstars for use by the Jewish WikiProjects, {{The Jewish Barnstar}} and {{The New Jewish Barnstar}}, and you can choose which one you would like to use.. Remember: barnstars are for rewarding users who are doing good work on the project or on Judaism, Jewish History, or Kabbalah articles, and anyone can give anyone else a barnstar. If you see a user who you thinks deserves a thank you, give them a barnstar!
To Do/Help Requests
If you have some spare time on your hands, we could use an article about a Kabbalah scholar named Moshe Idel. According to HG there are quite a few sources easily available, you can contact him if you have questions. Be sure to nominate it for DYK if the finished article is eligible.
The folks at Shimon Peres need some assistance from someone familiar with both the Hebrew calendar and language to help them figure out the subject's birthday. If you can help, please see Talk:Shimon_Peres#Birthday.
We get a lot of articles that are being created and not announced! By announcing new articles, you attract attention to them, and the more people looking and editing the better they will get. If you would like your new article to appear in the newsletter, add it here for Judaism and Kabbalah and here for Jewish History.
There are some 40 odd standing requests for Judaism related articles. Please make them! I would, but I'm too busy writing this. .

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of French Society of Financial Analysts, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://dbpedia.org/page/SFAF. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 11:21, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2010-03-26T11:21:00.000Z","author":"CorenSearchBot","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-CorenSearchBot-2010-03-26T11:21:00.000Z-French_Society_of_Financial_Analysts","replies":[]}}-->
A tag has been placed on French Society of Financial Analysts requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from French Society of Financial Analysts, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. March 2010
Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give SFAF a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. – Toon19:06, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2010-03-27T19:06:00.000Z","author":"Toon05","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Toon05-2010-03-27T19:06:00.000Z-March_2010","replies":[]}}-->

The idea of setting up a local Wikimedia chapter has been discussed by South African Wikipedians (and those associated with other Wikimedia projects) for some time now, and we want to help turn this dream into a reality. There are currently over 25 chapters established around the world, and several more planned and being discussed, but so far, none in Africa. A South African chapter, should it become a reality, would be a continental first. If you're interested in being involved in the creation of a South African Wikimedia Chapter, could you please email me directly :). Thanks and have a nice day, Kaydee 68 (talk) 11:13, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2010-06-09T11:13:00.000Z","author":"Kaydee 68","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Kaydee_68-2010-06-09T11:13:00.000Z-South_African_Wikimedia_Chapter","replies":[]}}-->

I have added the "reviewers" property to your user account. This property is related to the Pending changes system that is currently being tried. This system loosens page protection by allowing anonymous users to make "pending" changes which don't become "live" until they're "reviewed". However, logged-in users always see the very latest version of each page with no delay. A good explanation of the system is given in this image. The system is only being used for pages that would otherwise be protected from editing.
If there are "pending" (unreviewed) edits for a page, they will be apparent in a page's history screen; you do not have to go looking for them. There is, however, a list of all articles with changes awaiting review at Special:OldReviewedPages. Because there are so few pages in the trial so far, the latter list is almost always empty. The list of all pages in the pending review system is at Special:StablePages.
To use the system, you can simply edit the page as you normally would, but you should also mark the latest revision as "reviewed" if you have looked at it to ensure it isn't problematic. Edits should generally be accepted if you wouldn't undo them in normal editing: they don't have obvious vandalism, personal attacks, etc. If an edit is problematic, you can fix it by editing or undoing it, just like normal. You are permitted to mark your own changes as reviewed.
The "reviewers" property does not obligate you to do any additional work, and if you like you can simply ignore it. The expectation is that many users will have this property, so that they can review pending revisions in the course of normal editing. However, if you explicitly want to decline the "reviewer" property, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. — Carl (CBM · talk) 12:33, 18 June 2010 (UTC) — Carl (CBM · talk) 13:23, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2010-06-18T12:33:00.000Z","author":"CBM","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-CBM-2010-06-18T12:33:00.000Z-I_have_marked_you_as_a_reviewer","replies":[]}}-->

Hi there. Local Wikipedians have set up a mailing list where we will be discussing the formation of a local Wikimedia Chapter in South Africa. Please join the mailing list at this url https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikimediaza. There is also a page set up on Meta where you can add your name if you're interested to take this idea forward. Check out http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_South_Africa. Hello, this is just to let you know that I have granted you the "autopatrolled" permission. This won't affect your editing, it just automatically marks any page you create as patrolled, benefiting new page patrollers. Please remember:
This permission does not give you any special status or authority
Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
If, for any reason, you decide you do not want the permission, let me know and I can remove it
If you have any questions about the permission, don't hesitate to ask. Otherwise, happy editing! Fintor, in case you didn't see the message on my talk page, you need to stop using the minor tag on every edit. It shouldn't be used if you are adding or removing content. See WP:MINOR; it's possible you have it enabled in your preferences. Combined with not using an edit summary, it makes your edits get buried in some watchlists and history, which isn't good for any controversial edits. BTW, you can reply here instead of my talk page. tedder (talk) 01:57, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2011-05-04T01:57:00.000Z","author":"Tedder","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Tedder-2011-05-04T01:57:00.000Z-using_the_minor_tag","replies":[]}}-->

Hi. When you recently edited Farshid Jamshidian, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Equity (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

WikiAfrica invites you to support the Africa Incubator
WikiAfrica is pleased to invite you as a self-declared African Wikipedian to evaluate the Africa Incubator. WikiAfrica has created the Africa Incubator to support and assist new authors, as they create their first articles and learn the ins and outs of contributing to Wikipedia.
The Africa Incubator is a ‘soft landing’ for new authors to develop articles that relate to Africa. It assists them in becoming compliant and knowledgeable of Wikipedia principles and rules. Based within the Wikipedia framework, the Africa Incubator is fully interactive and enables feedback, assistance and forums.
This is where we need your help! For the Africa Incubator to be successful, it needs the intervention, interaction and experience of Incubator Mentors. We are looking for a pool of active experienced Wikipedians to consistently participate in ’owning’ the Africa Incubator. Incubator Mentors will assist new comers through the editing process. They will also help test and expand the Africa Incubator, and will play a vital role in encouraging newcomers to be Wikipedians for life
Please visit WikiAfrica Incubator to give us your honest feedback and evaluation.
WikiAfrica is a ground-breaking project that is designed to Africanise Wikipedia by generating and expanding 30,000 articles over two years. Find out more about this project here WikiAfrica. To get involved, contact Francis [[email protected]]

Hello,
I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabelldoualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahfafricacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.
If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of William Margrabe, and it appears to include material copied directly from finmath.com/Chicago/NAFTCORP/Seminar/BioMargrabe.htm.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. I saw that you added to the article several years ago this paragraph (I'm quoting the way it is now): "To determine a ruling, Ganzfried based his decisions on three halakhic authorities: Rabbi Yaakov Lorberbaum; Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, the first rebbe of Chabad Lubavitch, author of the Shulchan Aruch HaRav; and Rabbi Abraham Danzig, author of Chayei Adam and Chochmat Adam. In cases of disagreement he adopted the majority view."
I was just wondering, is there a source for that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mpg613 (talk • contribs) 03:13, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2014-07-24T03:13:00.000Z","author":"Mpg613","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Mpg613-2014-07-24T03:13:00.000Z-Regarding_\"Shlomo_Ganzfried\"_article","replies":[]}}-->

Just had a chance to review Fin econ per above post 6 months ago. What a tremendous effort and to such good effect. In that time, article size has doubled, and number of hits per month is up by about 2/3. That's amazing. Moreover, the increase content from your major edits is remarkable, and your minor edits that you care about the small stuff stuff as well.
I would not expect you to do it, because you can rest on your well-earned and hard-won laurels, but anyone interested in the subject might replace the JEL sidebar for Fin econ with a new section that links the JEL the 2ndary & tertiary codes to their respective subjects, such as The New Palgrave JEL-abstract links Industrial organization#Subareas. Maybe you could urge others to others do it. You certainly have the clout for that.
Peace and other best wishes. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 15:51, 12 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2014-12-12T15:51:00.000Z","author":"Thomasmeeks","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Thomasmeeks-2014-12-12T15:51:00.000Z-Re:_Financial_Economics_review","replies":[]}}-->

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Greetings- I am reaching out based on your recent edits to hedge fund and hedge fund-related pages. I have a few suggested edits to help improve the content of Kyle Bass BLP page and wanted to see if you would be able to assist.
My name is Steele and I work at Hayman Capital Management, L.P., which was founded by J. Kyle Bass in 2005. My goal is to serve as a resource in support of Wikipedia’s three core content policies. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi, I saw you were editing Aggadah and added a reference to "Rabbi Nathan Cardozo, The Infinite Chain: Torah, Masorah, and Man, ch. 6." I do not seem to have easy access to this, so can you post to here the page(s) you have in mind? A photo of the page posted to imgur.com would be great if you don't have patience to type out all the words :) Thanks and shavua tov! Hi there! I am delighted to see that you're editing again. I've been cleaning up Samson Raphael Hirsch#Influence and Controversy and was wondering if you had some good sources for the outstanding citations?
I hope to add some other examples of "Influence" to counterbalance the "controversy":
Three Generations by Grunfeld (I have a copy)
S.R. Hirsch Mishnato ve-Shitato (Emanuel - I have no copy but it is cited by Klugman)
Philips, Judaism Reclaimed ISBN 978-1946351784

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. To the best of my judgement, you edited more than 30 times without logging in while you were blocked. If you wish to dispute my assessment, please write here (with a ping to me) that you prefer to be reported at WP:SPI, where someone more experienced than me will make the decision. You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Douglas Breeden requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.commonfund.org/commonfund-teams/board-of-trustees. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. Thanks! You have been asked many times to stop marking almost all of your edits as minor. You were even blocked for it. But you started again almost immediately. Why? Look, this is what it comes to: if I find after 24 hours that you didn't stop, I'm going to block you for at least a month. If you can't understand the simple explanation at Help:Minor Edit then don't mark any edits as minor. Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Yosef Yaakov (Yoska) Sabatka a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Yosef Yaakov Sabatka. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. ------20:02, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20221101200200","author":"-- -- --","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c---_--_---20221101200200-\"cut-and-paste_move\"","replies":[],"displayName":"--"}}-->

Dear Fintor,
(My English is not good and forgive me if there are mistakes).
We do not know each other and I am addressing you regarding the entry "Shiur" in Wikipedia. (You was the first to write about it).
I would like to refer to the following sentences:
"The Hebrew term ("designated amount") came to refer to a portion of Judaic text arranged for study on a particular occasion...".
Well, the word "Shiur" in Hebrew (both ancient and modern) refers to a certain amount, it refers to material things, as well as to time. A "Shiur" is an allotted time. You determine an allotted time in which you teach (if you are the lecturer) or an allotted time in which you study (if you are the student).
It is written in the Gemara in Masechet Shabbat, page 35 (1): במסכת שבת, דף ל"ה עמוד א': אמר ר' יוסי בן רבי חנינא: ... שהרי נתנו חכמים שיעור לחזן (שמש) הכנסת להוליך שופרו שבו היה תוקע על גג גבוה באמצע העיר.
"Rabbi Yossi ben Rabbi Hanina said: ... for the Hahamim gave a frame of time, to the HAZAN (Shamesh) of the KNESSET, to play his SHOFAR in which he would blow, on a high roof in the middle of the city...". That is: The HAZAN had an allotted time.
/
And now for the main thing. As I wrote at the beginning, my English is not good enough and I would like to ask you to express the above in the "Shiur" entry
Tanks in advance.
Shabbat Shalom

Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024.
If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page.
