Was very impressed with your thorough and accurate history of our family publication, Music Trades. One small error however. Brian Majeski graduated from Lawrence University, Appleton, WI. Not St. Lawrence.
Thanks. Don't want friends and fellow alums from Lawrence to think I'm disavowing them.

This article, which I gather you're mostly responsible for, is kind of a mess. Could you take another look and see if you could make it more like other biographies? For example, the material under "Obituary" should be covered in the rest of the article. Overall, it's usually best to organize biographies chronologically. The material on his wife and children is probably excessive. The subject should be referred to by his last name, unless in the context of discussing other family members. Let me know if I can help. Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Waterson, Berlin & Snyder, Inc. a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. You do have a point, the list entries are by themselves decent prose. If one removed the bullets, they might even work as a prose, albeit with a rather bad flow. Still, the article's structure looks odd compared to similar sports biographies (or, indeed, biographies in general), as it mixes biographical facts, achievements and statistics. Perhaps {{Cleanup-reorganize}} is a better fit? You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~Charmlet-talk-19:18, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2013-10-08T19:18:00.000Z","author":"Charmlet","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Charmlet-2013-10-08T19:18:00.000Z-Proposed_deletion_of_The_Anderson_School","replies":[]}}-->

There is also considerable precedence not to add a silly long list of alumni. At least split it of to a separate template, fix the links to disambiguation pages and remove useless disambiguation like [[William Basinski|William Basinski]]. It is enough to write [[William Basinski]].
You have also added a list of alumni with articles on other Wikipedias. That is an absolute nono. Write the article or red link them. But you can't use a link to another Wikipedia.
And the second nasty comment: make sure all article wikilink to the university. During a quick check I noticed that that is not always the case. Fair comments. The Alumni list is unique in that it is tightly connected to the template topic. The heft of the institution stands atop the alumni, far more than the faculty. The template is ideally suited to quickly communicate that point. About 25 to 40% (my guess) of that list is astoundingly notable. The ability to quickly view it in the template serves as a composite snapshot — a public review of the college's total work. It is akin to showing a discography for an artist. On the interlanguage stuff — I red-lined the names. My dear Eurodog,
I see that you have an interest in the Johnny Helms article and would appreciate it if you could solve the issue with the small picture of Johnny that he gave me permission to use shortly before he died.
I have no idea what Wikipedia wants me to do so I need assistance from someone.
Here's what was just posted to my talk page:

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
Hello, Eurodog. You recently edited Gold digger, adding a great deal of detail and internal links. That page is not an article, though; it is a disambiguation page. Disambiguation pages follow a specific style, described at MOS:DAB, and contain just enough information to guide users to appropriate articles. I have therefore removed the information you added. I took out your reference to Benton Overstreet being a pseudonym of Billy Higgins, as it is clear from other sources (see those articles) that they were separate individuals. But, do you have any information on "William Blackstone"? Was that a pseudonym of Higgins? There are plenty of sources that say that Higgins co-wrote the song with Overstreet, but also other sources which say that Overstreet wrote it with "Blackstone". Clarification is needed! Hello. I thought I'd come by and explain some of the edits I've done to numerous articles you've edited on.
I'm not sure why you're so gung-ho about using "refbegin" on everything. I've never seen this anywhere on wikipedia.
Your referencing/citation style is very unconventional. Not sure where you've seen this. Every ref I've seen has the "group=lower-alpha" coding after it. I can't find documentation on it but I believe it is preferred to use the referencing style that will produce numbers and not letters. Perhaps, if you have not, refer here: WP:CITE and the manual of style: WP:MOS
The use of the borders is extraneous. I would advise against using them. As well as listing addresses per WP:NOTDIRECTORY.
Seemingly, anything more than 40em does nothing. I would recommend perhaps using 30em, for 3 columns. This is how I found your account. I went through and searched wiki to see articles that was using this coding and found a number of pages done by you. So I decided to look at your contributions.
I find a lot of formatting you've done is very difficult for the reader. For instance, Puchito Records discography. Everything should probably go in tables. It's very messy. Look at other discography pages if need be. I don't know if any record labels that have their own discography page, by the way. They have categories, like this
Using semicolons for bold markup is harder for screen reader users (people who may be blind). Bold is preferred.

I'm aware that was quite some time ago, but back in 2007 you wrote an article on the Cotton Club Boys. Today I tried to find additional references for that page and came upon [1], [2] and [3], all of which refer to a group of male dancers, not to some sort of band. Are those different groups? And is the band really notable? I have trouble finding any information whatsoever about it beyond "it was in Omaha", plus content that seems taken from us. Moved it (see Cotton Club Boys (territory band)). As for the Cotton Club Boys connected to the Cotton Club Parade of the uptown Cotton Club, and later midtown Cotton Club, an article would be useful. You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. As one of Wikipedia's most experienced editors,
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. I recently sent you an invitation to join NPP, but you also might be the right candidate for another related project, AfC, which is also extremely backlogged. Would you please consider becoming an Articles for Creation reviewer? Articles for Creation reviewers help new users learn the ropes of creating their first articles, and identify whether topics are suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Reviewing drafts doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia inclusion policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After requesting to be added to the project, reviewing is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the reviewing instructions before making your decision. Was Ollie Potter a blues singer or a jazz singer? She was, reportedly, an excellent blues singer who sang with jazz musicians. Blues, in her heyday was, in many ways, at the advent of jazz (not New Orleans). Looking at it from the flip-side, many serious jazzers, even today, are often mostly blues players. Moreover, many singers during the 1930s and 1940s specialized (torch = ballad; rhythm singer = swing; crooning; etc.) and some bands carried two or three singers to cover styles. Strictly speaking, tho', the jazz discographers / sessionographers list all singers who recorded with jazz musicians, and, by association, those listed are typically treated as jazzers. Ollie is listed on two dates in Tom Lord's sessionography.
"Reportedly" is another word I suggest dropping. Reported by whom? When, where, and is it accurate? There's a difference between blues and jazz. There's a difference between blues singers, jazz singers, and traditional pop singers. Al Jolson may have acted in a movie called The Jazz Singer, but he wasn't really a jazz singer. Neither was Ray Charles. The number of jazz singers is actually small. Singing with a jazz musician doesn't make one a jazz musician any more than being in a room with a surgeon makes you a surgeon. The expansive instinct interferes with accuracy. Our survey should take about 10-15 minutes of your time. We hope that you will enjoy it and find the questions interesting. All answers will be kept strictly confidential and will be anonymized before the aggregate results are published. Regretfully, we can only accept responses from people who live in the US due to restrictions in our grant-based funding.
As a reward for your participation, we will randomly pick 1 out of every 5 participants and give them $25 worth of goods of their choice from the Wikipedia store (e.g. Wikipedia themed t-shirts). Note that we can only reward you if you are based in the US.

You're making this much more difficult than it has to be. For example, the James Chirillo article. Why all the detail? Why do it your way rather than how the rest of Wikipedia does it? If you want work to do, there's plenty on the Cleanup Listing. Title of album, label, and year is sufficient for discographies. Don't put where the album was recorded in the discog. Please try to avoid the "as of" template. Don't use the header "Select discographies". ALL Wikipedia discographies are select discographies, and who are you to select? I see people use it to inflate the discographies as a means of promotion and praise. Don't add catalog numbers. Don't link the labels, musicians, venues, cities, etc. multiple times. Link them once the first time they occur. Don't put links or footnotes in headers. Don't link well known cities, states, countries, and geographical areas. Don't use horizontal lines. Don't use div col for only two or three items; use it only for a very long list. Keep in mind that readers have screens of different sizes. Less information is usually better. It's not a contest to see who can pack more information into a discography. Ask yourself who are your doing this for: the general reader or yourself. Ask yourself who the audience is for articles. This post may come off as excessively critical. But I see the same mistakes over and over. Editors need to do a better job of cooperating if any progress is going to be made. The most important part of an article is not the discography. With Chirillo, I don't don't harbor a strong preference either way; tho', I find it nice to be able to see it all on mobile devices. But with Puchito, more specificity is helpful in untangling the catalog, given the cross-border re-issues. I've been passing this around. I hope it helps. Some notes on articles about albums.
Infobox:
Omit "in" before the place the album was recorded
"Recorded" is for a date (April 1, 2000)
"Studio" is for the name of studio, with a city next to it (Abbey Road Studios, London)
"Venue" is for the name of a venue, with a city next to it (O2 Arena, London)
Omit "Records" or "Music" and pipe the label. (Decca American release is preferred.
Every album has either a studio where it was recorded or a live venue. After filling in one, delete the other rather than leave it blank.
If you aren't using the Alt field, delete it
Omit catalog numbers
Omit space before and after slash mark.
You can line up the equals signs, but it's not a rule. I think infoboxes are easier to read when they are lined up.
Avoid the use of ALL CAPS in nearly all instances. On the internet ALL CAPS means SHOUTING.
Lede:
Don't count albums. Don't list the album count of the musician. Don't write "the fourth album by" even if you are certain.
Albums are released by labels, not "through" labels or "via" labels or "on" labels. For the most part, musicians don't release albums. Labels do. Musicians record albums. Labels release albums.
It's not "on the Columbia label" or "through the Columbia label". "Columbia" is sufficient.
Sources:
Don't use Discogs.com or Amazon.com as sources. Click on my name for more information about this subject or read the relevant Wikipedia documentation.
Personnel:
"Personnel" in the header, not "credits"
Any information you use has to be sourced. This goes for everything you add to Wikipedia. Everything. Don't add unsourced information.
Don't mimic the formats in the credits sections of AllMusic and Discogs.com
Don't enter track specific information for musicians, like "track 7" or "1,2,3" like Discogs.com. You can't use Discogs.com as a source.
Don't enter "photographer" "composer" "arranger" like AllMusic. The musicians are the main thing. If you want to enter production information, do it in a separate section.
All you need to enter is name first, en dash, instruments lowercased, not bracketed, commas between instruments, no periods, no parentheses with track numbers
Sort instruments by: leader first, brass, woodwind, keyboards, strings, bass, drums, percussion, vocals, backing vocals; within each (more than one trumpeter, for example) sort by last name
En dash is formed with the option key and the hyphen key (on most keyboards, option to the left of space bar, hyphen to the left of plus sign)
Em dash is formed with the option key to the right of the space bar, while holding shift (directly above it) and they hyphen key. A three-key press.
Make sure you know when to use the hyphen and when to use the en dash or em dash.
On Wikipedia, the en dash gets used a lot, so you might as well learn it.
One more thing:
Always keep the reader in mind. Always keep your audience in mind. The reader doesn't know what you know. The reader is different from you. Don't write to please yourself. Write for the common reader. Readers don't always like what you like. Readers don't always think the way you think. As in other encyclopedias, reference works, and web sites, Wikipedia tries to maintain a consistent form. That's why there are templates and standards for organizing information. This makes it easier for everyone. Would you change the Linc Chamberland to resemble the other discographies and articles on Wikipedia? Thanks. I apologize if you already know this. This is not a put down. All you need is this:
"Discography" header. Not "Select discography" or "Selected discography" or "Works"
If necessary, use headers for "As leader" and "As sideman" (or guest)
Album title in italics
If necessary, add co-leaders (not sidemen) and the word "with" next to album title.
Sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is a co-leader or sideman. Album cover might help.
Parentheses, label, comma, year of release, closed parentheses
Link and the pipe the label on its first occurrence in the list
List the albums in ascending order (past to present)
Use release dates, not recording dates
Omit details like "live", "reissued by Columbia in 2001", or "dedicated to his mother"
Omit catalog numbers and matrix numbers
Omit chart positions and awards
If the information seems important, find a way to enter it in the body text of the article instead of the discography
Songs belong on album pages, not discographies or discography articles.
Use Discogs.com as a reference for help but it can't be used as a reliable source (for citations, footnotes)
Under sidemen section, sort by last name
If there are more than two albums with the same leader, group them together
If there is only album with the leader, put those singles in a list under the bold typed title With others
Use bold type for sections with more than two albums
Don't put Wikilinks in headers around the names of the leaders. It will make the table on contents at the top very long.
Concentrate on getting the facts right first. Worry later about columns and other pretty things. Hello, Eurodog,
Thanks for creating Tim Schuller! I edit here too, under the username Nsk92 and it's nice to meet you :-)
I wanted to let you know that I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:-
The Selected published works section needs to be significantly trimmed.
The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Nsk92}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

The article is about a jazz journalist. To me, it makes sense to point out some of his work. The listing shows the timeline and subject of his work. In particular, it points to his advocacy in the development of part of a jazz era and genre, as well as a development in jazz journalism – and, it credits him for helping the resurgence of Bunk Johnson. The mention of others, such as Skippy Adelman (recognized by some as one of the finest jazz photographers, albeit a void of findable references) might interest some. The listings, in my view, are notable, if for no other reason, as potential go-to bibliographic sources for other articles, herein. That said, I'm not hardcore about anything in the article. If you feel strongly that some of it is unnecessary, I'll happily volunteer trim or edit it. My guess is that the listings probably need some clarification – to show the relevance. – Eurodog (talk) 14:07, 26 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2019-09-26T14:07:00.000Z","author":"Eurodog","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Eurodog-2019-09-26T14:07:00.000Z-Tom_Reedy-2019-09-15T00:44:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->

I would like you to follow the format of the rest of Wikipedia when it comes to jazz articles. If this person is a jazz guitarist, why isn't he in the jazz project? The article was created nine years ago. Jack Lathrop was done with painstaking care, which is a nice change, but in a format that differs from other articles. I can make a long list of what needs to be corrected, but I suspect you already know some of them. I see no advantage in including OCLC links. One disadvantage is that I have to explain to IP editors the difference between these links and embedded links and proper references. Many times they either don't get it or don't care. It's difficult to get people to add references to articles, though this is something all of us learned in school a long time ago. I don't see know why there is an unsourced section for "compositions" (most of us call them "songs"), or why they are divided into pretty columns, or why there is a copyright "C" sign in each one. I don't know why there is an unsourced section about Family that reads like it was copied from a genealogy site. Wikipedia is not a genealogy site. I don't know why there are "br"s in the code. Or why there are so many headers and sub-heads. I don't know why matrix numbers and catalog numbers are included. I don't know why "as of" has been used when that's merely setting up someone else for work that's not necessary. I don't know why there is a "movie section" when he appeared in only one movie, as a guitarist in the Glenn Miller band. Have you ever read the rest of Wikipedia, and does it matter to you what what the rest of us are doing? I suggest you click on my name and read my User Page for more help. OCLCs are a quick and easy lifeline for locating sources; and, they amalgamate other locating tools – digital links, LCCNs, and ISBNs (not the other way around) – it's better than sliced bread. Songs" vs. "Compositions" = "tomato" vs. "tomato." With respect to using cols. vs. tables, I've built a lot of tables, and, at your urging, have been doing it more. But I am dissatisfied with the appearance and functionality of tables on small, mobile phone screens. When using cols. style, the br code helps. – Eurodog (talk) 16:14, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2020-08-17T16:14:00.000Z","author":"Eurodog","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Eurodog-2020-08-17T16:14:00.000Z-Vmavanti-2020-08-17T15:00:00.000Z","replies":["c-Vmavanti-2020-08-17T23:48:00.000Z-Eurodog-2020-08-17T16:14:00.000Z","c-Vmavanti-2020-09-05T00:07:00.000Z-Eurodog-2020-08-17T16:14:00.000Z","c-Eurodog-2020-09-05T00:57:00.000Z-Eurodog-2020-08-17T16:14:00.000Z"]}}-->
You can't accomplish what you want with regular citations? I've seen v. few articles with OCLCs, and what you are linking to at the Lathrop article isn't exactly vital or informative. I can't imagine why you feel it necessary to print the copyright sign other than it's fun. Tables at my urging? Doesn't sound like me. Ah, mobile phones. I don't own one. They are one of the curses of the 21st century. It's nice that you want to accommodate phone users, but really, who cares? I looked at again, and you didn't change anything. Those aren't citations. They are embedded links, and they should be removed or turned into proper citations. Delete the copyright signs, delete the OCLC numbers. One sentence paragraphs. One sentences sections. Why? Why so many sections? I assume that you are following the format of a discography from a book or magazine that you read. Please use the format of Wikipedia, Wikproject Jazz, and all the other articles here. Keep it simple. Wikipedia is not a catalog for jazz collectors. You are wasting your time and everyone else's. Cheers, mate. The OCLCs aren't intended to be citations. They are resources that oft' provide more complete info and, for other researchers, locations. The purpose of a disambiguation page is to help the reader. The reader. The reader needs only enough information, quickly and clearly, to distinguish one term from another. When one reads a name on a disambig page, one shouldn't have the thought "But he's also this" or "He also did this" as though some great moral wrong were being corrected. The information is brief and limited for good reasons. The disambig page, like the lede of an article, isn't the place to list everything a person is or has done. Specificity is the whole point, not an insult. It's fast and useful. Ambiguous, open-ended praise isn't especially moral, and it's irrelevant to Wikipedia. It's slow and obfuscating and it reflects bias. Maybe it sends a thrill up your leg to say "African-American scholar" especially if the name in question is an idol, friend, relative, or symbol of all that is Good and True. My aim is more modest: to separate one term from another to help the reader. I can do it with two words: William Cole – jazz trumpeter, William Cole – jazz trombonist.
On the subject of disambig pages, we have some rules of thumb.
Try to avoid creating categories with only one or two items. Try to make three the minimum. Why? Because I said so? No. Because every header, every indent, stops the reader's eye, interrupts his attention, slows him down. Just like more information slows him down.
You chose to use as a header "Business and commerce". What exactly is the difference between those two words? Can one settle for "business" as on all the other other WP pages? Or do you suddenly know better than the rest of us poor slobs?
Why "public service" instead of politics? Because it sounds noble and gives ootsy good feelings? Can one settle for "politics" as on all the other other WP pages? Or do you suddenly know better than the rest of us poor slobs?
A person who is a professor doesn't automatically earn the title "scholar", a term that in America is a sign of distinction. One can be a professor without being scholar, "professor" being a descriptive term (with levels of professor) and scholar being an opinion. It isn't the job of WP to tell people who is distinguished and who isn't, who has been and naughty and nice. How about keeping it simple, like "professor at University of Whatever"? Of course, if the article is lousy, that makes it the disambiguator's job harder. The article William Cole (scholar) is a trophy case of foggy prose and terms unknown outside of hilly English hamlets. Few people are familiar with "inducted to the first portion of the rectory of Waddesdon, Buckinghamshire". Then we have "collated to the rectory of Mersham, Kent, by the Archbishop of Canterbury". More constipation. "he was installed prebendary of Westminster". Am I supposed to know what that means? And "received the degree of D.D. by the archbishop's diploma at the archiepiscopal visitation at Canterbury" and "presented to the vicarage of Shoreham, Kent." He married, but he "left no issue".

Hello - I appreciate you work to improve the references in USS Utah (BB-31), but I'm confused about why you keep adding extraneous details like the birth and death years of authors, or postscripts describing an editor. With respect to the cite attributed to Jerry W. Jones, Jr., I would prefer using his PhD dissertation, if for no other reason, it is accessible online (his book is not). By including his DOB, readers can determine that his is not the son of Jerry Wayne Jones of the Dallas Cowboys. For me, it's helpful to know that he is on the faculty at a university. Yet, I don't think an article on him is necessary.

Functionally and visually, it's fine the way it is. Creating a table for a tiny discography is clumsy and unsightly, IMO. I've done plenty of discog tables – and respect consensus of how to do discographies. But no one seems to be concerned about how awful the tables look and function on certain platforms, most mobile device O/S, in particular. With respect to long discogs, tables are beyond disfunctional on iPhones and the like. Maybe I should be more involved in the discussion. With that said, if there is a super-strong, wide-disagreement, I will do it. But if it's just you and a couple of others, I'll pass. – Eurodog (talk) 17:03, 6 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2021-06-06T17:03:00.000Z","author":"Eurodog","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Eurodog-2021-06-06T17:03:00.000Z-Vmavanti-2021-06-05T23:24:00.000Z","replies":[]}}-->

This edit seems to do little more than change the citation format used in the article for Queens. This appears to violate WP:CITEVAR. Is there a reason why the citations are being systematically changed? Alansohn (talk) 01:40, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2021-09-10T01:40:00.000Z","author":"Alansohn","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Alansohn-2021-09-10T01:40:00.000Z-Changing_citation_format_for_Queens","replies":["c-Eurodog-2021-10-21T13:55:00.000Z-Alansohn-2021-09-10T01:40:00.000Z"]}}-->
Yes, there are few reasons. Mainly, many of the citations link (and deadlink) to dynamic data that requires updating and maintenance. It was/is my aim to organize the citations to make it easier to do so – and, perhaps, zero-in on specific references, with more specific page numbering, etc. Massively referenced data is tough to maintain. The final step, which I have not done, is to change it to a Harvard notes-references format. To that end, the citations, among other things, work much better on mobile apps, not to mention large screens. My objective, initially, was to fix and improve a few citations. But, while doing so, I realized that there was a bigger task. Before converting to the Harvard notes-references style, I need to figure out how best to suppress, or conform, the auto-citations attached to one or two tables. With that said, I am certainly open to reverting the style back. But, I would like to suggest trying the new style, first. Categorizing the citations were done, in part, to help fix many of them, which included removing duplications. Harvard style or not, the categories don't need to stay, but, it occurred to me that keeping it would help future editors not only maintain and update citations, but also use them to improve the article. – Eurodog (talk) 13:55, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2021-10-21T13:55:00.000Z","author":"Eurodog","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Eurodog-2021-10-21T13:55:00.000Z-Alansohn-2021-09-10T01:40:00.000Z","replies":["c-Alansohn-2021-10-26T00:23:00.000Z-Eurodog-2021-10-21T13:55:00.000Z"]}}-->
There is ample clean-up needed of citations in many articles, but changes to citation format without consensus violates WP:CITEVAR. There is plenty of justification to add or combine references, but there is none to justify changing the citation format, no matter how worthy you think your goals are. I note your extensive use of Scott stamp catalogue numbers. About 10 years ago there was a long discussion about the use of such numbers and being copyright to their authors See this, it was felt that minimal use would be ok, but more extensive use should not be made of them. You have used Scott stamps numbers extensively for each stamp noted. I suggest you remove them. ww2censor (talk) 15:41, 31 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"2021-10-31T15:41:00.000Z","author":"Ww2censor","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Ww2censor-2021-10-31T15:41:00.000Z-Lou_Nolan_(artist)","replies":["c-Eurodog-2021-10-31T22:26:00.000Z-Ww2censor-2021-10-31T15:41:00.000Z"]}}-->

The article Lou Nolan (artist) is nearly unreadable. Please review Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biography as well as WP:NOR, WP:PRIMARY, WP:IINFO and WP:NOTEVERYTHING: encyclopedia articles are not meant to be databases or repositories of all conceivable information on a subject, but tastefully presented summaries of subjects that have been significantly covered in secondary sources, in proportion to their prominence in secondary sources per WP:PROPORTION. Massively overly-intricate presentation aside, the article nearly entirely lacks reliable, secondary sources needed to demonstrate notablity: aside from Nolan's short obituary in the Washington Post, nearly everything is a primary source, passing mention, and or about other topics. If no one has yet written the definitive biography and catalogue of Nolan, Wikipedia is probably not the place to do so. Others have raised concerns about your citation style before. I strongly recommend avoiding convoluted and needlessly intricate citations, especially ones that shoehorn extraneous editorial/biographical content about the author. Please take this as constructive criticism. Cheers, --Animalparty! In this edit you added Skippy Adelman as a notable person in the article for East Village, Manhattan. There's no source here and none in his article. I'm sure you know all this stuff. Would you kindly edit this article again and fix all the crazy cite parameters? Also, it doesn't hurt to summarize every edit. Look at how I detail my contributions. Cheers and best wishes for 2025! —Anomalocaris (talk) 09:27, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20241231092700","author":"Anomalocaris","type":"comment","level":1,"id":"c-Anomalocaris-20241231092700-House_of_La_Rochefoucauld","replies":["c-Eurodog-20241231190300-Anomalocaris-20241231092700"]}}-->
Hi Anomalocaris: Thank you for your feedback on the citations in the House of La Rochefoucauld article. I used parameters like |title= and |type= (in itemized sub-sections of biblio) creatively to highlight access points (e.g., Via Internet Archive) and contextual information (e.g., Royal Historical Society) ... only after the title and such has been stated. Parameters like "|title=" displays (and links) access points and "|type=" nicely puts parentheses around text ... using "|type=" for sources (e.g., Royal Historical Society) allows separate linking (from "Via Internet Archive"), etc.
The upshot is that I'm using cite book templates only in sub parts of a citations. Why offer linked-source options on cited materials? HathiTrust, Internet Archive, Google Books, and BnF (for example) have unique behavior in different environments: With Internet Archive, when using a PC, one can easily copy text (especially, when in French, for translation purposes). With Google Books, from a PC, one scroll through quickly – but, it does NOT behave well on mobile apps. BnF (France) offers advantages, including option text, more detailed info, and a different search set-up. HathiTrusts has other advantages. In the past dozen or so years, a lot of new material has been digitalized → from original sources. This is great.
My goal is for citations to be clear (understandable), accessible, and helpful to readers. FWIW, other than bibliography enhancements, I have not contributed to the body of the article itself. For now, I am only working to improve the citations. Unless you strongly disagree, I believe the current approach works well. That said, I'm not hard-boiled. I'm happy to collaborate to refine the citations further if needed.
I'm still working on the bibliography section: split citation style, which features Wikipedia's built-in scripts (e.g., pop-up preview when hovering inline cited identifiers + pop-up or highlighted references when hovering over noted items → making navigation between Notes and References seamless). Best wishes for 2025! — Eurodog (talk) 19:03, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20241231190300","author":"Eurodog","type":"comment","level":2,"id":"c-Eurodog-20241231190300-Anomalocaris-20241231092700","replies":["c-Anomalocaris-20250102215200-Eurodog-20241231190300"]}}-->
I don't think it is ever a good idea to use citation parameters in nonstandard ways because you like the display. {{cite journal}} is only for peer-reviewed academic journals. {{cite book}} is only for books. |first}] is only for an author's first name, not for their life years. —Anomalocaris (talk) 21:52, 2 January 2025 (UTC)=[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20250102215200","author":"Anomalocaris","type":"comment","level":3,"id":"c-Anomalocaris-20250102215200-Eurodog-20241231190300","replies":["c-Eurodog-20250103034300-Anomalocaris-20250102215200"]}}-->
Thanks again, Anomalocaris, for taking time to review my edits. I recognize that the flexibility I was aiming for may inadvertently create vulnerabilities, including a potential lack of clarity for editors accustomed to standard usage. Upon reflecting on your advice to maintain consistent and standard use of CS1 templates and parameters, I will, henceforth, adhere more closely to those conventions. I am now more mindful that deviations from standard practices could pose challenges for the CS1 module's Lua script, including, among other things, with the handling of translation or automated processes. Moments ago, I peeked at your talk page and can see that you are dedicated to improving the quality of Wikipedia, which I greatly appreciate and respect. — Eurodog (talk) 03:43, 3 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]__DTELLIPSISBUTTON__{"threadItem":{"timestamp":"20250103034300","author":"Eurodog","type":"comment","level":4,"id":"c-Eurodog-20250103034300-Anomalocaris-20250102215200","replies":[]}}-->
