"There is nobody who, having a garden, shouldn’t plant a great number [of black currant bushes] for the needs of their family,” wrote the Abbé P. Bailly de Montaran in 1712. W-League categories

Hi,

I think you may have made an error in removing many players from the category "W-League (Australia) players". I can only assume you have done this because these players are already in categories named "ABC FC (W-League) players". However, "ABC FC (W-League)" is, rightly or wrongly, simply the naming category for W-League teams (e.g., Sydney FC (W-League)). So membership of the "ABC FC (W-League)" category indicates only that the player has signed for that team, and may have represented that team in other competitions than the W-League. It's well established consensus that club player and league player categories are not subategories of one another and I think removing these categories on these basis is therefore the wrong approach. Let me know if you have any thoughts. Thanks, Macosal (talk) 22:37, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Macosal. Category:Adelaide United FC (W-League) players‎ and the other individual team player categories are sub-categories of Category:W-League (Australia) players. If someone belongs to Category:Adelaide United FC (W-League) players, that automatically puts her in Category:W-League (Australia) players. It's a bit like the categories for where people come from. If someone is in Category:People from Brisbane, there's no need to add them to Category:People from Queensland; they're already in that category by virtue of being in Category:People from Brisbane.

Category:W-League (Australia) players is a container category, which means it should only contain other categories, not individual pages. It's currently considered a 'polluted category' because it contains the player pages. I was cleaning it up. I hope this clarifies matters. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 23:03, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your response, however, I think you have misunderstood.
There are occasions a player may be in Category:Adelaide United FC (W-League) players‎ but not Category:W-League (Australia) players, for example, players contracted to Adelaide United's women's team but who (a) did not make any appearances for the team or (b) appeared for the team only in competitions other than the W-League. Neither category here is a subcategory of the other. This is a well-established arrangement of categories for footballers in various clubs / leagues. (e.g., Category:Sydney FC players and Category:A-League players).
Macosal (talk) 01:55, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Further to the above - I take your point that it is listed as a container category - however, for the reasons outlined above, it should not be one. Macosal (talk) 01:57, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Macosal, that seems a bit odd, but the intricacies of footy contracts aren't one of my stronger areas. You might suggest a change from container category to non-container category at WP:CFD, or discuss it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Categories. I'll leave the rest of the player pages alone for now. Sandra Lee (chef) COI edit requests

Hi! Reaching out because I saw you've been involved in updating Sandra Lee (chef) in the past. I've posted some COI edit requests on the talk page there. If you have time, would love your feedback. Thank you! Mary Gaulke (talk) 13:11, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Mary. I remember you from COI requests in the past. I took care of a few easy, clearly neutral ones, and set up an archive for the talk page. I don't know if the bot will create an archive page where none exists; I suspect not. In any case, your edit request is the only discussion on the page, so it should be all right for some time.

I do have a small request to make of you: Please omit 'language=en' from references. It may be helpful if you work with editors at non-English Wikipedias, as 'language=es' or 'language=ja' to mark references as being in Spanish or Japanese would be here, but in English Wikipedia, it's not visible to readers and simply serves to clutter the wikicode. Thanks! BlackcurrantTea (talk) 14:57, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting, I didn't know that! I typically use the citation builder built into the editor, which I think often auto-inserts that parameter. I'll take it out of the requests. Thanks! Mary Gaulke (talk) 21:04, 21 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unclear why so many {{edit semi-protected}} notices have been ignored. Am I doing something wrong? (Please see [1] and [2]). Thanks. 65.88.88.56 (talk) 20:24, 30 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, 65.88.88.56. Some of the requests are missing references, such as Agathe Poschmann and Dominique Marcas. Without references, you're asking the person filling the request to do more of the work: visit the individual's article, look for a reference there, check it, then copy that to the centenarian article. An edit request which includes a reference, such as that for Beatrice Mintz, is more likely to receive a response.

You seem to have a good grasp of editing, and I expect you've heard this before: The simplest way to avoid such delays is to register and start editing with a user name. The process as close to painless as these things can be. If you have a problem - troubles with the CAPTCHA due to using a screen reader, for example - there are people who can help. Once you've registered, not only will you be able to make your own edits, you'll be able to keep track of changes to the articles by using a watchlist, and set preferences so that the site works in the way that suits you best. I find it both easier and more pleasant. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 02:16, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Does IMDb count as a valid reference? If not then we may as well forget about the three pending actresses. 65.88.88.56 (talk) 18:59, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, IMDb is a user-generated source, and is not considered reliable. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 02:46, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As far as the scientists go, Norman Guthkelch has a very valid reflink (see [3]). Yours, 65.88.88.56 (talk) 19:01, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's a valid link; however, it's a mailing list. A quick look at some results in the archives of the reliable sources noticeboard suggests that mailing lists aren't viewed as reliable sources. Of course you're welcome to post a question on the noticeboard about using this particular mailing list as a source; it seems as though it might be reputable. It might be easier to find another source. Perhaps an academic journal posted a memorial to him, or something was named after him, and there was an article written about that. Good luck. Reverting edits on Anne Applebaum's entry

Hi BlackcurrantTea. I saw that you commented on a user who was reverting edits made to Anne Applebaum's entry. They removed an edit that I made, but the reason is not sound in my opinion. As you suggested, I reached out to him, and tried to explain the rationale of my edits. I wonder what the next step would be, if the user didn't acknowledge the message that I left on his user page. Maybe I should just move on? --Idris.albadufi (talk) 22:11, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Idris.albadufi. Yes, moving on would be a good choice here. The user responded on their talk page. If they hadn't, or if you wanted other editors' opinions on the change, the next step would be to post on the article's talk page.

I looked at your edit and Sniper247's explanation for reverting it. I've not looked into the 'of Polish descent' / 'Polish-American' question, but I agree with their reasoning for removing 'Jewish' from the opening paragraph. Religion generally doesn't belong in the opening paragraph of a biography. Had Applebaum written extensively on Judaism, or if it were significant to her notability in some other way, it might belong there. For more information on this, see the Manual of Style for biographies. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 05:14, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I noticed you were cleaning up the above mentioned page. From the Ukrainian wikipedia, it seems like the project was canned sometime between 2014 and 2016.[1][2] My instinct is that this article should be deleted.. seems like it was originally a case of WP:CRYSTAL and now a mostly promotional article for something that doesn't exist. Though I'm struggling to assess the sources and I'm not sure what the relevant policy is here. What do you think? Jdcooper (talk) 11:40, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Jdcooper. Thanks for tracking down the refs. Based on those, my first thought would be to merge BIONIC Hill Innovation Park with BIONIC University. However, that needs much better sources itself, and more of them.

If BIONIC University turns out to fail notability as a stand-alone article, a short section on it might be added to National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Another option would be to add something about one or both BIONICs to Vasyl Khmelnytsky, who seems sufficiently notable. There should probably be a mention of them there in any case. All four need to be edited for neutrality, too. It's reassuring that one will never run out of things to do here. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 13:35, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I want to report harassment

Hello, A few days ago, I got a note from you that Wikipedia takes vandalism more seriously on my talk page. Today, I want to file a report on a user (Kshatriya Yoddha), who apparently called me a racial slur on his talkpage.

This is the comment the user made to me: "Cope harder sub-narmada pajeet... and sulk when you see a tall, fair, handsome north-Indian munda flex his muscles infront of mallu and tulu chicks... should i send u a fair&lovely... will help u :)"

This is the link to the user's talk page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Kshatriya_Yoddha

The link to the comment is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Kshatriya_Yoddha&diff=prev&oldid=1169306784 and I believe this is the current version of their talkpage. In case they made have edited it, this link will provide the evidence.

If this issue doesn't concern you, I would like to know who may it concern so I can proceed with my report.

Thanks, No2WesternImperialism (talk) 18:55, 8 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, No2WesternImperialism. I'm sorry to hear that. Abecedare, an administrator, has blocked them indefinitely. If you experience something similar in the future, the quickest way to find help is to report it at Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, usually referred to as 'AN/I'.

It can be difficult to keep a cool head in these situations. Thank you for working to stay within the bounds of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. As a general note, when there's a question or concern about the content of an article, the best place to discuss it is that article's talk page. That way, other editors who are watching the article will be aware of the discussion and can participate. They may have helpful information to contribute, or a new point of view. If one goes directly to the talk page of another editor, it's far less likely that other people will know about the discussion. It can also help to take a break when there's a heated debate. Find another article to improve (going to a random article is a fun way to do this), or log off and do something unrelated to Wikipedia. Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 05:30, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your hatnote, and question on your opinion

Hello and thanks for your hatnote in the Girls of the Night (1958 film) article. Actually, I thought about opening a Girl of the Night disambiguation page, as we have the following similar titles in the meantime:

What do you think? Best Robert Kerber (talk) 09:05, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Well spotted. All four can go on the same disambiguation page; there's no clear primary topic, and the difference between plural and singular isn't enough to call for two DAB pages. (Since they're all films, it could be a set index, but disambiguation seems the better choice.) Cheers, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 14:51, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I agree, a disambiguation page seems like the better choice. What do you think if I changed the Girls of the Night redirect to this DAB page instead to the 1958 film as it is now? Robert Kerber (talk) 15:01, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, do retarget it, because the 1958 film isn't the primary topic. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 15:27, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for your input. Robert Kerber (talk) 15:59, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. Happy editing! BlackcurrantTea (talk) 16:05, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I was finally able to recover the document, it has been released in the public domain but I don't know where to upload it to cite in Pirelli.-- Carnby (talk) 05:15, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Carnby, glad you were able to get the report. There's no need to upload it; you can treat it as you would a book or any other source that's not online. For the reference, you can use {{cite tech report}}.

That said, since you have the document and it's public domain, you could upload it to the Internet Archive (archive.org). Then you'd have a link for the reference, and if someone reading Pirelli wanted to know more, they could look at it there. It might be useful to other editors, too; perhaps there's information there for History of scuba diving or other articles. Happy editing! BlackcurrantTea (talk) 06:31, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much!-- Carnby (talk) 07:48, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question on Category talk:Monster-taming games

I don't know where to start though? 🤷‍♂️ TroyToonTrotStudios (talk) 16:56, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, TroyToonTrotStudios. For general questions, the Teahouse, our help forum for new editors, is the place to go. I've put a welcome message on your talk page with a link to the Teahouse (under 'Getting help') and other helpful pages. For a question about the category:Monster-taming games, visit the page that I linked to on the category talk page, Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games. A WikiProject is a group of people who work on a specific part of Wikipedia, and WikiProject Video games members can help you with the category.

For now, please slow down a bit. Try finding reliable sources for articles that need additional references: here are video game-related articles that need more references. One more thing: When you post a new question on someone's talk page, add a new section at the bottom of the page, and tell them what you're asking about. It took a bit of searching for me to figure out why you were posting here. Thanks, and happy editing! BlackcurrantTea (talk) 14:48, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
