They are hard-won, and they are also a gift of time that not everyone is allowed to have. (Also, the only semi-recent photos I have are stills from my lecture videos, so here you go.) While I may be called emerging and junior for some time to come in certain professional contexts, I celebrate and recognize the many things from which I have already emerged and areas where I have already established my expertise! These days I also cross paths with many artists and workers in their 20s and 30s and, tho everyone's story is different, out of respect for us all I decline to gloss over the time and sacrifices that have been required for me to get to where I am today. The journey has often felt achingly slow and unclear. I do not take for granted the recent opportunities that have come my way, and know that many of these are simply a result of Staying the Course. #celebrateitall #abirthdayisnotguaranteed #april21thoughts #stayforevermidsentence"". Mom is one of the most intensely creative, smart, and compassionate people I know. And she doesn't have time for nonsense. She told me today that her college years memento of choice, which she brought to a UC Berkeley women's honor society virtual event recently, 50 years after her graduation, was none other than a teargas canister.
