This article, like all literature on the subject, treats the -opsins in terms of wavelength. But is it wavelength they are sensitive to, or frequency? The law of refraction states that EM frequency remains the same, but wavelength does not, across a transition medium. The frequency of a particular light emitted in vacuum, which crosses into air, and then vitreous humor, is constant. The photopsins that exist in humans are not the only ones that exist. Could anyone name the UV-sensitive photopsin that gives birds their tetrachromacy? Are there any infrared-sensitive photopsins? If so, what animals use them? The redirect in non-sense, porphyropsin is rod-opsin with covalently bound 11-cis-retinal-2 while rhodopsin is rod-opsin with covalently bound 11-cis-retinal-1.
