Myros, built on the sediment region of the Demre stream, is one of the cities which had a right to three votes in the ancient Myra Kingdom. The area is now covered with green houses.

One of its most important ruins is the mausoleum in the style of the lonian temple. It is known as the native town of St. Nicholas and the church is visited by many people.

I could find no accounts regarding the founding of the city of Myra. It is generally accepted even in ancient Greek sources that Lycians were leaving in organized societies and have established cities. The fact that the founding of Myra is not mentioned in ancient Greek sources suggests that the city preexisted its Hellenization. There are however numerous sources regarding the adoption of Hellenic customs and the Greek language in all of Lycia starting for the late classical period ^[1].

The introduction may not be the best place to discuss the founding of the city. The evidence that support that the city was first inhabited by locals are the lack of any mentions of the city in early classical Greek sources, and that early tombs engravings used Lycian languages ^[2] before switching to Greek starting in the late classical period ^[1]. We should move this discussion in a dedicated section, and leave it in the introduction only if some source is found that discusses the issue of the founding of the city explicitly.
