Here's the Columbia Institute of African Studies' Facebook page sharing the news. The post they are sharing is from the personal account of the professor who chairs her department. That's a hate-speech-network post that still doesn't count as a WP:RS. Social media pages are not normal web pages. Someone should explain to the department chair the difference between a hate-speech-network post run by an authoritarian organisation versus a public web page run by a university, which is, in principle, a self-governing community of scholars rather than a corporation legally bound to maximise revenue no matter if promoting genocide helps with revenue maximisation. FB/Meta is not run by Columbia University. See WP:USERGENERATED: Examples of unacceptable user-generated sources are Ancestry.com, Discogs, Facebook, ... If you are in contact with the department chair, then please try to explain the difference between a hate-speech-network and a university web page. It should not be difficult for Uni of Columbia faculty to convince University of Columbia IT staff to add a note about decease to the subject's official webpage: https://ias.columbia.edu/content/centime-elleni-zeleke . Especially the chair of the department should be able to do that. That helps, thanks - but the year of death is missing. Someone who reads the source in 5 or 10 years' time will only know that Elleni Zeleke died in 2024 or earlier.
