Penalty shoot-out history
1 This was the first ever match in a well-known competition that used the penalty shootout procedure to decide a tie.[ 6] 2 For three consecutive seasons (from 1988–89 to 1990–91 ), if a league fixture ended in a draw, penalty shoot-outs were used to determine which side will be awarded one point (the losing side did not get a point).
